I think you need to get a bunch of plaid pants with bell bottoms if you are going to restore that thing and drive it. Your wife will need some disco pants as well...

Sorry, those wheel wells just made me do flash-back...

  8. It's like, if you took a 71 Mustang, and then an 76 El Camino I saw that one time.. and they had a baby. And then meanwhile, a 71 Riviera, and a GT40, made a baby. And by some crazy miracle, those two babies met, and fucked... this would be it!

It's kinda funky for 2006, but consider when it was built. This thing was the cats ass then. Pretty cool looking in my opinion... I wouldn't kick it out of bed.

I got a Joe Bailon story. Not related to this car but to his most famous car the Widow. My boss picked the widow up in 99 and an auction back east. Started restoring it and finished it in 2001. Around the same time he sent his merc down and had Joe chop it. His last chop and I can't remember what number it was but is was in the hundreds. Anyway in 2006 we were invited to the sema show to display the car as joe was recieving an award from the old school customizers for inventing candy apple red paint. It was a real treat to meet some of the real founders of the industry. Now not all Joe's cars were that visually appealing but thats what made them different. Niether were Darryl Starbirds and he made quite a name for himself. My hat is off to you sir for restoring this one. Keep us posted of any progress.

    I Love it!!!!

Anybody got pics of it in show trim?

What are the owner's plans? If not flippin it for a buck...

I was pissed when Toyota stole the Mustang design in the late 70's but daa..amn.
You photoshop knock 12"-14" off the quarters and push the front whls to the corners to get the ponycar proportions and it's a sure-fire influence on the 69 Mustang's design...WOW

PS. I'm convinced the '71 Riviera design was first penned in 59-60 as a styling excersize for goin four seats with the Corvette. There's so many mid-year design influences. And it did compete with the Tbird, just from the everyman's luxury division when the vette was done with the look.

  15. Definitely has a "Chevy trying to look like a Ford" look to it (sacrilegious, I know)

    But I like it

Wow.... That's ugly. It may have history, whatever. But that is an ugly car. No disrespect to Joe. He has built some much nicer cars...

I have searched the web for almost an hour and a half, but still have found no photos or even a mention of this car. I'd love to see it in show trim.

I can't say anything about this car without offending recently beaten red-headed stepchildren throughout the land.

So far we've got one foto of it in its day from the original owner's son. Still got to scan it. Joe is suppose to have a bunch of snaps of it and we are trying to get him to send them to us or scan them etc.

Looks like it might be up for sale cuz the only way to do it right is to have $$$ to do so and as of today don't have that kind of cash.

The Widow is the most beautiful custom I've ever seen. The restoration is perfect. .

Hey Moldy if you found that in your back yard you need to get out there and mow more often.

Don't know ya Moldy but from yer last post sounds like it's yours and yer of modest means. Sure makes me feel good when people similar to myself get somethin like that in their hands and keep it that way. I respect what money has done for this hobby but it sure seems alla the fame connected historic iron ends up being just another piece of bling in a rich guys collection. So what if it takes ya 10yrs! I just realized last wkd that as life intervened, my project is now incomplete for 10yrs. I'm just gettin back in the shop now...

    That thing is sweet!

I love '65s in any form. Some-you should pardon the expression-cholos down the street when I was a kid had a primer gray '65 with flat taillight lenses. Sittin' on Cragar Super Sports, no less. (They got the back window shot out--for being vato in public, I'm guessing.)

Firstly, I can't believe no one has found pix of this beast yet.

And second, for 1965, you wouldn't need disco pants. A Banlon polo shirt and some nice pegged sharkskin slacks would do nicely. Shoes: the pointier the better. (Just look at pictures of George Barris from that time period.)

As for the lady of the house: something in a bouffant.
