Who invented hot rodding? Remember the hoods who built rats back in the day? Their rats were built cheap cause they had no cash. Flat black is cheap. You think they didn't have an influence on rodding? Just cause it's catchin on doesn't mean it's shit.
On a lighter note, each to their own, and any hot rod is good in my book.

    Ps,
Sorry I guess Fiddyfours rod is Purple!!
    No disrespect meant Fiddy!!
We are all entitled to our opinion.

  4. I disagree... the SBC is probably THE MOST traditional hot rod engine out there next to the flathead Ford V-8. Starting in '55... (late '54) people put them in EVERYTHING.

Here's one Tim and I just finished up putting in his '40 Ford Convertable.

It's a '57 283 without side mounts, stock... mated to the stock '40 trans. Out back is the Columbia.

The motor is a HUGE improvement over the flathead. One ride and you know why hot rodders put small block Chevies in everything back in the 50's...

I never said it was flat black. But it has become flat, or is old, or brushed on....... whatever, it ain't glossy and purdy. Do black and white pics really look black and white? Thanks for the tip. Duh!!

  7. That is SO true!

    This is how it goes...

    Something becomes a FAD.

People's minds who are into that subculture become saturated.

The "tipping point" occurs... and then that "thing" becomes passe within' the subculture.

People outside of the subculture, and those who are the ones who are actually STARTING the trends don't really give a shit... so they motor on, happy as pigs in shit... unaware or not even caring about the DRAMA within the subculture.

The number of saturated minds then becomes a FAD.

And then there is a backlash of sorts because the saturated minds are then in the majority...

and the tipping point cycle starts all over again.

So yea... it's the popular thing to do to bash the SBC.

There were no "rats" "back in the day", they were unfinished hot rods... that is unless you were referring to the guys that "ratted" on the "hoods"

    SamIyam,
That pic of your SBC is nice. If I did do one it would look like that. Nice clean, plain, classic.

  10. Hood rats? The last time I checked flat black is not that cheap, unless you're talking about rattle can shit. I could build a nice tuner car way cheaper than a real traditional hotrod, it's not really about cheap anymore. I agree, to each his own.

Ok, we call 'em rat rods now, I guess, but you get the point. Bottom line, no shine, and plain no bullshit rods look fuckin great. Again all rods are good in my book, each to their own, and I respect anybody who builds it themselves. I fuckin love rods!!

    ( did I really say that?) :D

  14. i don't care if you put a sbc in your damn car, just dont expect me to like your car afterwards, the sbc is the most boring damn engine in the world, i dont care what you do to it, put a blower on it , reverse the heads, twin turbo it, dual quad it, i dont CARE! iv seen it a billion times, Ive got 10 of the damn things in my shop, i wont use em, they take the life out of a car , they steal its soul, and make it plane and dead.. i hate em like poison gas , i dont care if there cheap i dont care if there reliable, i dont care if there's a lot of speed parts for them!, it's just plane selling out when you drop one in your car or truck unless it's original for that car or truck, there lifeless soulless engines!! , im cutting all of mine in half and making V4s with em, cause i won't let those damn abominations out of my shop whole and without a soul. screw that!

  18. At least they aren't a Mopar slant 6.

Those motors are like fat chicks... they feel okay, but you don't want your friends to catch you with one.

I mean... I know this guy who pumped up a slant 6... put all kids of money into it... and:
    1) It's still not as cool as my SBC
and 2) It can't even keep up with the stock SBC in my '27 T after I pull two lug wires.

What gets me is... there are people who think slant 6's are traditional hot rod material...

I just don't know if they are ignorant... or just stupid.

  19. Please excuse my above comments... the reason behind your babbling became clear to me once I went back and read a few of your posts... like this one:

"my 48 Willys is on a 85 bronco frame with a 6in professional lift kit , a 460 with dual 4s ran off of propane , hydraulic steering , bead locks and dual front and back PTO winches..."
what? at least its not a cookie cutter jolly rancher colored queer Gasser."

I'm guessing you think that your '48 Willys on an '85 Bronco frame with a 460 and dual 4's has "soul"...

Yea... it has soul... soul like Michael Bolton.

  20. Dude,You can't be serious, Slanties are waaaaaay cooler than small block Chevies. Unless, your SBC is flat black with red pulleys.

think i'm gonna go polish my gold chains and fluff my california duster now... where did i leave that crying doll at?

Haha, you're on fire today Sam. :D

This thread has convinced me that my next car should be flat black, red wheels and have a small block chevy. Hahaha! :D

And I am still loving the motor in that '40 Sam. I would have done the same thing in my coupe if the steel sbf v/c weren't so gay.

This thread is the reason I hardly ever open my hood at any gathering......kinda like flypaper attracting flies - and I run a 401 Nailhead.

What's the old saying, "every asshole has an opinion", or something like that.

I guess because my wording was fucked I put my foot in my mouth on this thread. If you have any sense, you know what I meant, or meant to mean, or I know what I mean......huh? Maybe I should do a rod that's not Flat black...... but I'm still not gonna put a SBC in it!!!
