So yesterday I go to adjust the timing on our 51. I take my 1/2 box wrench and grip it in my left hand to loosen the hold down bolt for the distributer. The open end gripped tightly in my palm. All of a sudden a huge shower of sparks in my face my arm and shirt. Hand is burning pretty bad. Thought the wrench hit the main lug on the starter and a spark went between my fingers. How???? Well. The wrench was up against my wedding ring and my ring hit the positive cable on the started. Burned the shit out of my ring finger and melted two spots on my ring. The ring got so hot it blistered my finger all the way around my finger about 2 times the size of my ring......:(

Hand slipped on the wifes dd that's getting a replacement engine and roadrashed the hell out of my hand. Looks like a 2nd degree burn on my first knuckle the size of a half dollar. Hurts like an sob. Probably the worst damage I've done in a while.

I always remove my rings after reading the medical books when mom was a librarian. After seeing a picture of a degloved finger 18 years ago, I can still remember the book, the wallpaper, where I was sitting... Scarred me for life.

    - Put the magnetic phillips tip on a Dewalt cordless through the palm of my left hand.
-A few dime size pieces of metal in my shoulder from a shattering air-hammer bit.
    -Broken toes.
    -Broken fingers.
-An 1 1/8" wrench to the forehead.
-Split my head open a few times on various cars on the lift.
-Uncountable scars, burns, skin, and blood lost over the years.
-I really think I've been pretty lucky... and I can't remember the rest.

Burns... I hate the burns. Even little ones hurt like hell. Weld spatter. sizzling exhausts and picking up a just-tacked weld are barely mentionable , I pray no big burns.

I wear my ring everyday but know one said I was ever smart. I work with a guy who jumped down from the top of a frame machine and "degloved" the meat from his ring finger. Long story short , he has no finger today.

I was trying drill a hole near a battery and well my cordless drill made ground between the battery and fire wall. Arch welded That drill bit into the fire wall and I burnt/cut my nuckle on the glowing bit.
Milliseconds of sheer terror could have been avoided if I just moved the damb battery!

Back in 69 I was just married and was almost home when the law lit up for me. I'd been drinking and in a friends car, (54 Chevy), so I thought I'd ditch the car and run. When I jerked the door handle and jumped out to run, my
ring was caught on the handle. By the time I got loose my finger was tore to the bone, but I ran anyway. Then I heard "Halt,or I'll shoot". I kept running. "BLAM" I nosed into the dirt. Face, finger, elbows, and knees all bloody from gravel, and Busted. I also have melted it on a starter post. I couldn't get it off if I wanted to without destroying it. It only hurts for a while. I had a hot welding rod flip out of my hand and go up my nose. That hurt and stunk. I dropped a big electric body grinder in my lap one time and the disc went into my upper thigh about 3 inches. Little Jimmy almost lost his head that time. Last June I dropped a 56 chevy and chopped the end of my left thumb off. It's over a year now and finally about all grown back. That's enough for now. Cars are dangerous!!

my neighbor had a giant wheel polisher for polishing big rig wheels. has like a 3HP motor. he put the big inch and whatever wrench on the nut to change the polishing wheels and for some reason hit the on button..... with the big wrench on there.

got hit right on the top of his hand. there's a lot of little bones in there to break. a couple were even poking out.

I got an extension cord wrapped around my neck a long time ago while polishing a car. good thing I let go of the trigger that's all I got to say.

  16. I was listening for an underhood noise the other day. When i started inspecting the alternator i used a long screwdriver to listen for bearing noise(tip of screw driver on alternator, ear rested on end of handle). I was making a conscious effort to not hit the screwdriver into the belt when the screwdriver slipped and hit the fan blade on the pulley and launched the screwdriver into my ear.If someone was watching they woulda shat their pants laughing but it hurt like a mofo.

I was excersizing rear brake calipers on a Porsche that had sat for a little while. Had a guy in the car pumping the brakes while I would push the piston back in. I was using a short pry bar and it slipped, causing my hand to slam into the lip of the fender. The skin litterally pealed off of my hand exposing all kinds of things that I had never seen before. I went into shock, ambulance came, yada yada yada.

Now the top of my hand is a big purple scar!

  18. Helped a buddy working on his new gas tank and had to enlarge a hole for an original fitting. Damned old drill press was hot wired (no switch). Finished the hole and reached to unplug the drill... caught my wrist on the bit and watched 3 inches of skin spiril up the bit, nasty little mistake.

  19. Not to be a post whore but...

When I was a teenager I had decided to put on new tips on the exhuast. Cut those puppies off with a hack saw and got a tiny shard in my eye. Hurt so bad that I could sleep. A whole day later I got it picked out by a Doc with skillful hands and a toothpick/q-tip combo. Lesson learned was goggles and glasses, and maybe right tool for the job.

Nothing too bad for me....Im just real bad about welding/grinding while wearing flip-flops.

  21. I once cut my hand with a cut off wheel on a grinder....funny thing was that the ring of sparks surrounding the wheel actually cauterized the wound..so it didnt bleed or hurt one bit..:D

I can shoot sparks out my ass. Not a recommended sport I know for a fact.

I was tig welding in the front and rear structures on a fiberglass bodied 32, which was sitting on the chassis. There was one bolt on either side in the middle of the door opening to keep it in place.

I had finished welding the rear section and turned around to start the front section, (they arent connected at this point) I forgot to move the ground!

So when I struck the arc, it used me for the ground and the only thing capable of conducting the rest of the curcuit was the one body bolt, that I was sitting on.

Its a feeling thats very hard to describe, and it makes you want to pee.

  25. I have a small scar on my belly from the cutoff wheel from trying to cut the rearend out of a car, under it with it hanging off the back of a truck. It slipped a little and grabbed my shirt and wound right up tight.

Got a scar on my leg from slipping through the rotted out floor of an upside down Buick, which I bought anyways. There's more, mostly scrapes. The one time I did get something in my eye, it fell out on it's own, thank God.

-Claw end of hammer into forehead.inch long hole right into the bone.Took 5 stiches to close up but barely visible now
-Putting down a grinder I'd just switched off.Hit the grinding disk with the knuckle of my right pointer finger.Half inch hole with shiny bone visible.Hot wheel sealed up the wound great though so no blood.
-Hacksaw blade couple centimetres into the tip of my thumb.Split the nail in half.
-Car dropped off jack and just nicked the tip of my right middle finger. Now swollen up like a ballon and bright red.Great when you flip someone the bird ,cos now they're certain to see it
-Hit my right wrist against the red hot, pointy corner of a piece of hollowsection.
That was 3 weeks ago and it only just started to heal.
    - Ripped my left leg open on a piece of sheet metal in a junkyard.Foot long scar.

And the usual welding eye, welding burns, grinder sparks in eye, welding spatter in ear bla bla bla

Jesus I really need to be more careful!!

Lost three fingernails inside an engine block. I pulled the sump off while the engine was still in the car to pull the oil pump. Once I'd fixed the pump I crawled back under the car to install it, but it wouldn't slide in, so I used my free hand to pull on the fan belt and turn the engine over just a tad while my other hand pushed the oil pump into place. After an hour or so lying trapped under the car with my hand jammed between the oil pump body and the rotated crank, I finally wrenched it free.

    Cheers, Glen.

I was drilling a few holes in a truck frame using a cord type drill plugged into a short extension cord.Being done,I just yanked on the extension cord cause I was too lazy to unplug it properly, keep in mind I'm a construction electrician. The cord snapped back ,hit me in the eye brow, blood everwhere, the eye was ok ,lucky for me.So I start the usual mother fucker cock sucker war dance holding my hand on my head.My wife comes running over, she worried I did some real damage. She checks it out, then starts to laugh,"you stupid shithead,be more careful and it'll leave a scar but won't be any big issue on your ugly head"" . She drags me in the house, cleans it off, graps her small sewing scissors and clips off the small ruptured blood artery sticking out of my eyebrow, cleans it up again and applies a few small bandages.
I now unplug cords at the outlet..................
