A good car buddy gave my son a 1977 fender precision base and a peavy half stack. He bought it new thinking he would learn to play. Never did. TP

My Great $19 Deal.............Bought a 348 Tripower manifold, with carbs, and little chrome air cleaners, with the origianl Black OEM aircleaner, with a progressive mechanical linkage. No onw new what it was, I knew it was a GM but did not know what it fit. It was at a Farm auction in southern Ohio, got if for $19 (nineteen) bucks. Then........you know the story, owed my brother $200, did not need it, and called it even. This was in 1982, this stuff was bringing a couple hundred back then, now the black air cleaner is worth a ton. It was in mint condition so it is probably on a super looking car. I even found a new in the box AC filter at an old auto parts store, that went with it.

I am the guy that did this in Valley City Ohio, Here is my next great story.................This one is for real. Bought a 1968 Super Bee Hood cheap $35.00, had the ramcharger induction and was Black with White Scoops. IT was some option for ram air 383 not 440. Was complete, note this neighborhood was 100% chevy guys. Then while cruising in my chevelle I spot this Belevedere (1968) in Brusnswick Ohio was the same as the super bee car, more or less. So I tell the guy, your car looks nice, except kinda "feminine" without a Super Bee Hood. So he follows me to Valley City Ohio from Brunswick (6 miles), and sees the hood, I ask $75 for the whole thing, and he comes back with $30, Fd$*#&%^#* mopar guy, you want a $30 hood for your unmasculine car, I took a Pick Axe and speared it 3 times and said that is a $30 dollar hood.................HA HA...............I then put the scoops on a 1967 chevelle, and you know, they actually look better on the chevelle..............HA HA.

Doug - multiple witnesses, My brother still says I could not believe the guys eyes when I did that. And his car still looked like a f%&%#E%_# grandma car.

  7. The best deal i ever got was at a divorce auction they sold everything including the house and land. I bought 24 yes twenty four parts cars for $100.oo including a 69 chevell 2 dr htp that was missing the front cap. Also a AMC gremlin X a51 plymouth cranbrook that i sold for yard art for $300 also a half dozen 70,s chev trucks two were 4 wheel drive, the best part was that they were close to home only 6 miles. I reciently bought a C3B edelbrock intake for a smallblock chev $20 and a edelbrock C66 bigblock Two four big block intake in unused condition for $50 from a local shopper paper. The last good deal was a saginaw 4 speed for $65 at a farm auction. When i was a kid i bought dozens of cars for less than $100 but in the sixties i only made $40 a week.I once bought my buddy,s 56 chev 4 dr 6 stick for $35 so he could pay a fine and get out of jail.I junked it and sold the engine for $4o the next week and used the trans in my Pk .I still have the hood and rear end chunk. The radiator is in my 55 wagon. That was over 40 years ago.:eek:OldWolf

  11. Gave a kool $100.00$ for this gem in 73. My bro worked at a I-H farm dealership. He came home wound up like a 8-day clock about this car. Interceptor engine, wonderbar radio, traction bars, dual exhaust, and the best for last a Tear Drop hood-scoop. Had it three weeks and sold it for $300.00$. I never even got to drive it. Oh yeah the guy said his son went off to the army and told his dad to make good use of the car. So the dad traded the car for a shit spreader>>>>.

Just recently got a functional, non-leaking 3 ton floor jack for free. Gotta love family who loses interest in things!!!!!!

Lots of other random "free" stuff too, but nothing of major interest.

  14. Back when I was 15, this old neighbor of mine had a 72 Vega panel wagon with a 327 Vette motor in it, it was his old drag car. It never saw it run, all it did was sit under a tree and collect pine needles. I asked him about it one day, and I ended up swapping a case of beer for it. My parents were good enough to buy the beer for me, and I got it running in a day.

  21. How about this one. An auction up north of here. (pretty sure I saw that Stude truck while I was there, too). Guy had a crapload of transmissions out and they did one round of choice. I was high bidder at $19. So I picked the one toploader 4-speed out of the pile and a three-speed. They did another round and I was top bidder again for $5 - or else someone else was and you could buy in after he had his pick - in any case that's when I got a '51 Ford 3-speed OD trans, with clutch, flywheel and bellhousing. So for less than $50 I had all three transmissions.

The toploader I put on eBay 6 months later. It sold for $200 - the guy said he'd send me a box to ship it in, and sent me a check for it. Well, six months go by and the box never comes. So I sold it to a local guy - for $200 more.

The '51 trans I stuck away in a car trunk for now, but when I looked on eBay at the time a nice one was going for $300 and someone got like $150 for one that looked like maybe the car it was in had burned or something.

There were some cheap deals at that auction, I missed out on a '47 Pontiac fastback that was not in that bad of shape.. it sold for $90.

I was at an old second hand/junk store one day just looking around. They were unloading the truck from doing pickups and I ask "what they want for that transmission"? I got an early Muncie M-21 4 speed for $35.00, the only thing wrong with it was the stud on one of the shifter forks was broken off. Also picked up a complete 57' Olds rear end for $15.00 at the same place, they said "it came out of a Ford truck". I got a Speed Gems conversion bellhousing to put a Chevrolet V-8 up against a 49-54 Chevy 3 speed transmission for $25.00, seller did'nt even know what it was/fit, it was on E-Bay. Got a pair of #461 heads with all new valves, springs, retainers, and fitted with screw-in studs for free from a Ford friend. Fenderwell headers for 55-57 Chevrolet for $35.00; just look and see what they cost now. BUT, all that does'nt make up for the B & M HydroStick, with aluminum Chevrolet bellhousing adapter, several Chevrolet flywheels and modified torus assemblies, 2 shifters, 2 drivelines, and another stock Chevrolet V-8 truck Hydromatic WITH starter motor that I GAVE AWAY. Now I wish I had kept all the Hydro stuff; STUPID-STUPID-STUPID. Oh well.
