It's so dang hot in Texas I spent the day in the A/C working on a couple of projects.

I won a 1/8 scale 32 3w body in a raffle on another site, so I decided to lower the lid.... Here are a couple of pics... am I on the right track? Do the A-pillars look OK? Also, I was wondering what to use to re-attach the resin roof that will be strong, maybe JB Weld?

I've also been working on a Bonneville styled roadster. Today I finally figured out how to mount the steering box under the dash like a Schroeder unit. If that was a real 1:1 set up, would it be secure? I'd like it to be realistic, so I may reinforce it..

Thanks for looking, suggestions welcome, and let's see your projects!

For resin, I use super glue. Make sure the surface is very clean or it will peel off later. You can use the super glue to fill in gaps, and as filler too. Very strong joints.

I did the same thing with the steering on my first Big Deuce kit years ago. Still gotta finish that one.

Nice. The roadster looks good. I can't wait to see the coupe with the roof done.

cant even describe how much i like that roadster!!

i am working on a few projects, but i just started on a moonshiner's 40 ford with a nailhead and beefier back spring. i might try to make the trunk open if i can find small bottles and crates to go in it

    awesome roadster man!

  11. Roadsters looking good, Id put another mount outboard of the box though matching the one already there. If your feeling adventurous you could incorporate hanging pedals from them too.
For your chop find a how too on a 1:1 (Tex Smith has a good book) and re do the top of the A pillars, maybe a V in the top side window round down.
The super glue is great for re-joining but it will pay to make some br*** rod 'pegs' to locate the top and re-enforce it as well. Some where some one's going to pick that ****er up by the turret and the last thing you want it the lid popping off!
Heres one I did, a little smaller but you get the idea. With careful measuring, cutting and filing you can get a good fit. This has no filler in it or added plastic.

i've been working on some 1/8 scale wheels that i want to cast. I love the lindberg wheels and tires. Someone asked me if there were any deep dish 5 spoked that would fit these tires. So i made some

Wow, Doc, that chop is what I'm going for, looks perfect... Keith- love the wheels! I never liked the orig. bid deuce 5 spokes because of their wide outer lip... that fixes that!

I havent used it on plastic yet but, and I know pwople will laugh but
Mighty putty (an apoxy) is strong enough to hold a concrete stone together (for now anyway) and you can sand it and shape it. I'd think using super glue to join the parts, br*** rods and mighty putty to reinforce things on the inside and the putty for fill on the outside might work. It seems to me the putty could be thick enough to give the appearance of 1:1 door thickness
    et. al.

Try some Aves Apoxie Sculpt. It's a two part epoxy putty. I've used this stuff & it's great! Figure modelers use this because it's easy to work with & has a fine grain for detail work.
    Who makes the 3w body???

    Charlie Allen's Saddleback Dart

Heres the first few days of work. I havent found a whole lot of reference photos out there so there may be some 'liberties" taken on the build.
I'm using a revell 69 dart body that I have started shaving and Stardust Cuda for the ch***is and drivetrain.
Im not much on kit bashing but this project I didn't have a choice.
I shorten the ch***is and moved the rear wheels back to clear the body and accommodate the wheelbase.
I also added a little height to rollcage area to "fill" the roof line.
    And finally a little mock-up
    [IMG]
I will build this one along the lines of my Pure Hell altered with lots of moving details...
    Thank you for looking

    Hi guys ! :D

Just finished that sectionned 50 that week ... for some reason i'm not able to take decent pics of it ... that maroon is real pain in the *** !

I did that babe some 15 years ago, that's why proportions are not really kool... all it needed for all those years was some chrome on the bumpers and grille, so finally, i've alcladed them, and added packard side trim...

As you can see it's just your average sectionned and chopped shoebox convert ! merc grille shell, homemade grille, shaved bumper, flush huge skirts, extended rear fender to fit amt 53 stude custom bumper, kony kit from amt 57 t bird , tuck n roll seats, shaved dash, carson top made with the landeau top from the kit, 53 caddy hubcaps and 51 packard side trim... hope ya like :D

Zed, it's good to see you turning them out!:)
    That's a great looking grille.
Did you shave the bumper guards from the stock front bumper? I tried that once, and it ended up in pieces, as there was nothing cast behind them.:(

Are you building a Revell Merc for the build-off? The one I'm working on (which you have seen earlier) now has the hood extended into the grille shell, as you have done here (albeit with a lip). As you know, it is a modification not often seen. Looks great on your shoebox!

Thanks for posting ... and keep 'em coming! :D

    thanks 'Mo ! :D

I've got a trick for the bumper ! i put some clay in the guards from behind, then i cast it in resin so i had a bumper with full guards i can shave without any problem ! :D it's kinda genius !lol !

The revell merc is ****,i know you know that, and as it's the only allowed kit, i won't go for it !

Zed that's got better styling than any real shoebox I've seen here (or anywhere else). Models rule.

What's with your vendetta against that kit? It's only as good as what you do with it....

  28. Great "Model Car Sunday" guys!

I'm loving that '32 roadster and those resin wheels are great. The Charlie Allen Dart is one of my favorite Funnies. Keep us posted on it's build...

Also, anyone here have any advance info on what MPC models will be released by this new company Round2 this fall?

Thanks for the kinda word guys ! :D

That merc design is a joke ! i can't believe those designer people at revell have really seen a merc ! It's not just that goofy chop, it's the hood , the grille shell, flat side ... everything is wrong ! Why would i spend so much time correcting all those mistake like you or 'Mo did, when i can just take good ol amt Merc ( i've got ten of 'em ), make my own chop, and go for much cool mods with anything to correct ! Yours and 'Mo's are stunning, but that's a labor of love, and i don't love that **** !

I did one for a CBP on a french board ! Rules were it had to be box stock... the only way i found to hide those goofy shapes were flames.. lotsa flames ! :D

The real good thing about that kit is that now i've got really nice 54 poncho and 53 desoto grille  the only reason i bought that kit !

You think that's a kind of personnal vendetta, and you may be right ! Why the hell, the designers from Revell can duplicate any cars with talent , i've got the 48 ford, 56 nomad, 55 bel air convert, 59 imp, 60, imp, 59 caddy, and they 're state of the art.... weren't they able to find a merc or what !
