Just got back - lots and lots of beautiful hot rods! The swap meet for used parts is getting smaller and smaller to make room for the vendors with new stuff. A new stuff vendor told me the swap spot (one of the smaller spots) outside was $1500; a used stuff vendor said his spot was $250:eek: Spectator parking $8, $17 entry fee, the economy must be bullish - heard lots of complaints but maybe that is a bargin compared to other entertainment costs. Didn't seem to stop people as it was very crowded! I was amazed by all the new repro parts available including repop steel bodies - A's, 32's, 34's. Lots of trick frames too - don't know how the young guns can afford this stuff when they can't even afford a house.

There were some decent prices on project cars and some other good deals such as a clean 54 Chev 2dr sedan for $10K.

If you pre-register to enter your car it actually works out to be cheaper just to enter your car for $40. Gets you in the show and 2 free adult passes, and passes for your kids too. Beats the $8 parking in the dirt lot plus the $17 entry fee. Was a good week in the tri-valley just to see all the cars runnin around town

$250? I'm pretty sure it's more like $60 per space.

A 10x10 "new stuff" space is about $375.

Those guys were exaggerating or had LARGE spaces.

I think it's a bargain. My wife and I recently went to dinner and a movie...

    Dinner for two - $35
    Two movie tickets - $19
    Popcorn and candy - $22

Total - $76 for 3 hours of entertainment that won't inspire you to go home and wrench on your ride.

That's a pretty typical and non-lavish night out for two.

    Car show...

    As a spectator:

Parking (not paid to Goodguys) - $8
    Two spectator admissions - $34
Food for two (not paid to Goodguys) - $24

    Total - $66 for a whole day

    As a participant:

Admission for one car and two adults (for 3 days) - $40-$55
Food for two - $24 (unless you brought you cooler and own food like a smart person)

Total - $64-$79 (plus you could come back for two more days)

Seems like a relatively good deal to me.

The moral of the story? Drive your car and have fun!

Lots of big names there, Mark Kirby (MCF), Blackie, Brizzio, Gambino, just to name a few. Lots of 32's. The person I talked to about space prices said the outside low budget ones were $60 ea, and he had 4. The show is great. I guess if I had one complaint it is that some of the cars are hidden i some of the back areas because it is so large of an event, I think they are forced just due to space issues. I parked outside so saved $8 there.

I did talk to Mark Kirby about his Aluminum Flathead. Tells me that it is in production. ~$10K. I thought that was a long block (less intake) price but not certain. Also talked about his health. I'm sure it has been a long road to recovery but he looked in good shape

That belongs to HAMB'er Tri-Deuce-Dickey. It is an awesome roadster! I like it even better with these new wheels/tires.

I was thinking about this show over the weekend, One of the best time that I ever had was going to this show in it's infancy. Drove my Roadster P/U. cruised around all weekend, Rain showers on Sunday for about 15 mins, we were parked under the trees=Great spot. I believe this is when Ken Kennedy had purchased Jakes Truck, I always dug that one. All the "Old Timers" from West L.A. had made the trek north, It was one of those "It just felt right Moments" Then I remembered that it was 20 yrs ago, My how things have changed. I miss those people and those days. Looks like a good show with some great cars just the same.

I did have a long conversation with the owner of the SoCal Sacramento owner in their vendor area. He seems like a straight shooter.
