Ok guys, Im finally starting the build of my Lincoln y-block 368. Its being hot tanked right now. Didnt found any parts oustside Egge (specially forged pistons), so all new parts are from Egge. As you may know there are pretty much none aftermarket perfromance parts for this engines. I was thinking about getting a 4x2 or 6x2 U-FAB intake. Wonder how this things actually perform, great/good/bad experiences ? pictures ? Are this supposed to be consider "traditional" ? I mean were intakes like this made back in the time ? Im considering Gear drive : http://www.lakeheaders.com/UFabIntakes.html Any experiences with their stuff ? Thanks for any help. Diego
Mine works with stromberg 81's very well but was too much with 97's........ in a 32 Roadster.............
What do you mean too much ? Was it for the intake or the amount or carbs ? With another intake 97s should have worked ok ?
The 6 97's with #45 jets were too much for my 284" motor , the smaller 81's with #35 jets & less flow work best.........
Diego- From what I have been told by guy who are running them... They are like a light switch on the freeway... You touch the gas and it moves.. BUT, it has slow throttel response at idle.. Lots of hard corners in the intake and they don't flow smooth like a cast intake.. Yes they did have them back in the day.. Don Garlits ran a 8 deuce Crower U-Fab on the first swamp rat for a short time.. Crower sold them as kits... Late 1950's- early 60's .. Most of the old ones you see up for sale look like crap.. Home welding equipment has come a long way in 40+ years...
Mine works well at idle or driving in traffic. Has a Halibrand QC with 4.30 gears, a 39 box with 26 tooth Lincoln gears , special grind Howards cam for a lower RPM street motor , aluminum flywheel and a Vertex mag. Starts and runs well but I only use 110 octane leaded racing gas in it........
Thanks Matt, I suspected that. Any more experiences ? Isnt there anyone willing to repop some Lincoln y-block edmunds intakes ?
Got'um on my y-block, in my model A coupe, with 4 94's and was just bragging this weekend at the drags how good it runs, was a little tough getting going initially , but now it gets 15-16 miles per gallon on the road. A little tough to start after sitting for a while . When i first got them set up , i put the smallest jets in them i could get, run it around the block and pull the plugs and check the color, kept doing that until I was happy , the other big help is the multi-carb synchronizer from speedway, works real good.
well,....they're not "u-fab" per say, but completely home made exhaust headers,...and yes, I welded them up.
sorry bud,...I thought it read "exhaust"....hey this is what no sleep for about 48 hours will get ya! sorry,....well its still a nice intake, though made by Winfield,...
Well,.....let's try these....(ok i messed up, thought i had read "exhaust" not "intakes") sorry boys!! :-( By the by,...they are patterned directly off the same exhaust from a 29 roadster that ran at Muroc in 1940, its my good friend's car,...yeah he's still alive at 90 yrs old!
Mine isnt a ufab it an me fab. Works very well. Have built a couple from steel like Exhaust tubing for instance. Tuned length is easy to caculate if you know your desired RPM. See my website below for a closer look. I have alsohand built an V8 one. If you take yourtime and fit everything and keep it bolted down to keep it straight it is not bad to do. Be advised intake will shrink a bit on welding. You need to allow for that and make it sightly longer and wider ay 1/8 inch total to allow for that. Use whatever material you work well with. I am not an aluminum tigging type but steel welding comes easy for me so i used exuahst type tubing to build it and 1/8 flange altes.
saltflatmat...Lakeheaders..Minn..Matt..I got the 241 (4x2)...392 (4x2 inline) and the Desoto (4x2)..The log SBC 4x2 was built by the same person that built the others..I'm having 6x2, 392 being built plus a Flathead with interchangable tops.. Thanks for the comment on my work.. Duane.
