Is there a big value difference between the 150 base model and the 210 or belair? A local guy told me about his friend at work. He want to sell his '57 150, 2 door with a running/driving 327/4 speed. I haven't heard how the body is or interior. But its a project. ***uming its an AZ car with not too much rust issues is 5K a good price? I'm pretty sure it is, but I wanted to check with the experts first. I really like the tri 5's and its a 4 speed to boot! I also like the more stripped down look of the 150. Thanks for any input or opinions. Scott
Seems to me that the hardtops fetch a lot more than the sedans, and it doesn't really matter which model (150 210 or belair). Condition is what's really important....check it out thoroughly for rust inside and out and underneath. They rot out in Tucson too, you know...but it starts on the inside and moves out.
Thanks for the input. Yeah I've seen some surprisingly rusty cars around here. Hopefully it checks out and I can pick it up!
There is a good bit of difference in value with a 150 and Belair. Most, want the trim of a Belair. If you liked the stripped look (and I imagine many here would agree with you) then it doesn't matter. A 150 327 4 speed in decent shape will be worth 5K easy. I watched one (it was a 210) with basically the same set-up on eBay. It had hardly any front floorboards and it brought over 7K.
Base models are cool too, especially if it's to be mainly a hot rod. Unless it's a major POS, it's easily worth $5K or more.
It sounds like its a pretty good deal then. I'll keep you all posted. I'm still working on a phone number. My plans have been to make a fun street car with that all business street look.
Here's an idea of what there worth. Do you have any pics? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars...arms=39:1|65:3|240:1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chev...017QQitemZ270264614460QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
150's are desirable, mainly becuz "Blak Widows" were built on a 150 platform...a 150 two door will fetch MORE money than a 210...if it's in good shape...A Bel Air two door hardtop will bring good money almost no matter what shape it's in...I've seen ****can rustbuckets go for 8 Gs and up around here...anytime someone says '57 Chevy, you can automatically ***ume the owner will want big bux... The 150 will always sell cheaper than the 210 and the Belair. I think the lower selling price is because they were the lowest priced model when new. Also, they don't have the distinctive diamond trim on the rear quarters, the trim looks like the trim on a 55 Belair, making them less desirable in most car buyers mind. The total number made were far less han other models of the year making them not have much of a following. They were big on the race scene due to their low cost and weight. Most came with a 6 banger but could be bought in V-8 or changed over with ease. I paid much more than $5K for mine 8 years ago. If you can drive it away after you buy it would be a great deal in my opinion.
My thoughts are in the market in this area right now a 210 are 150 sedan is as good as a hardtop. Used to be people put trim on to make a Belair now they take it off to make a cheaper model. $0.02's
Latest Old Cars Price Guide values for a '57 150 2 dr sedan 1. $35,000 2. $24,500 3. $15,750 4. $7,000 5. $4,200 6. $1,400 A #6 car is an unrestorable parts car. Here's a few that turned up in a quick internet search
I own a 57 belair 2 door hard top....but also LOVE the 150 model's and would buy one in a heart beat if one came up i could afford... The value's are all over the place honestly. Much depend's on the condition of the car. But above that, the normal 'food chain' of these thing's seem's to alway's run from the trimmed out model's down..except for the Hi-Perf 150 model's..basically factory race car's that alway's have a tendency to demand good money. As is noted in the Ebay listing up a ways. 5k for solid 150 2 door, or fairly solid one sound's like a damn good deal to me, especially if it's a runner. AND the 327 4 speed only make's it better. IF you like it i wouldn't sleep on it too long. It WILL sell if he list's it... If it were local and fairly solid, i'd buy it myself..
It ceases to amaze me how many '57s they made and they still bring big dollars... They are the chevy equivalent to the ford mustang...
I agree, very cliche.... But the 150 model with a 283 or 327 and a 4 speed is the 57 Chevy of my dreams! The rust cant be that horrible if it spent most its life in Arizona, $5000 sounds like a steal! I'd buy it in a heartbeat!!
I paid 3 grand for my 57 Belair 2 door sedan and another 6 grand for body and paint....Thats 9 grand with no drive train! Thats where all my beer money went.....
Same thing holds true for the 1932 Ford/Chevy ... they built more 1932 Chevrolets than Fords ... where are they now ??? As far as 57 Chevrolets, I actually prefer the 150 over the others ... It has a cleaner, less circus wagon look to me, But then ... I like the 40 Ford standard over the 40 Ford Deluxe. I prefer the baseline 300 series in the 57 Ford over the 500's and higher option Fairlane ones also.
Hmmm.....so I must have the 210 Model since my side trim goes all the way through the door and to the front fender? I paid 3K for mine last month and it was parked in 1995. Poured some gas in the carburetor, added a new battery and it came to life. Added some brake fluid to the master cylinder and the brakes started to work. Turns out I have to replace the floor sections beneath the driver and p***enger feet but that's it on the rust. The only thing that doesn't work is the clock. Oh and I found out yesterday that I have the California front bumper so I'm doing good so far.
I really like the 150's as well. My first 57 was a 150 sedan, which I still have. I also have a Handyman waiting in the wings that will be just a fun car - six auto with a low stance. One thing around here is that were lots of cheapskates back then, therefore lots of base model Chevys, Pontiacs and Plymouths.
A little over a year ago i bought a 210 post car, in pieces..many pieces..for under 5k. But it needed a LOT of work. The plan at the time was to build a 150 clone as a daily type driver.. Unfortunately that changed and the car was sold to a close friend of mine. Here is a pic of a car it was to be modeled after.. Like i said above, i own a belair 2dr ht..I won't sell it because it was my first car and there's a lot of sentimental value to it..BUT, if someone was to ask my personal opinion of the line up of 57's, the 150 is the best of the bunch. There's nothing like Simplicity.
Lately 2 door post cars are bringing more money then 2 door hardtops. Posts to me have a much better roof line. Besides they are tighter and don't leak like hardtops, those flippers didn't work when the cars were new. Like someone posted on another site, hardtops look like your taking the family for ice cream, posts look Bad (in a good way). I know many Tri5'ers would rather have a post over a hardtop. Go to a Tri5 web site and see for yourself. You bet a 57 150, 327 four speed would be worth 5k in almost any condition.
