That looks to be the car that my old friend Jack Bowsher built for Benny, in which he won his ARCA championship with. I've never seen a pic of that car. Anybody have any more? Jack also fielded a team for A.J. Foyt in the USAC division during the same time. I believe they won two championships together.
They have a giant picture of this at the Dick Clark's '57 Heaven museum in Branson, Mo. Good backdrop for the three old race cars in front of them! Neat pics- hope to see more after the weekend!
A legend in the Pittsburgh, and surrounding area, Blackie Watt. I think this is the car owned by Joe Pitkavich when it had the early Hemi. When the new style Hemi came out, Joe had one in the car with help from Chrysler Corp. Check out the shield in front of the windshield he could flip up after it covered over with mud/dirt.
John, Way cool. You still live around Waukegan? I graduated HS there in '66. Pix of one of my favorite drivers, Johnny Reimer. Just NOTHING like those old Wisconsin / IRA modifieds! Gary
This is Linda pre-Hurst. She was Miss Pure Oil I think. She was from the Atlanta area and my buddy Phil Bonner introduced her to drag racing and George Hurst and the rest is history!! Phil and Linda are still very good friends today.
Andy Hampton at the Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville in 1964 in a Pontiac prepared by Harry Hyde. This one and a team car driven by Jesse Baird were the class of the field for two years.
Thinking about it, I guess that has to be 1969. From the grille, it looks like a Charger 500, which was the forerunner of the Charger Daytona.
My brain don't work so fast anymore. CRS, I guess. I was trying to think of the car owner's name, and it finally came to me. It was H.P. Rainier, and this team was the forerunner of Robert Yates Racing.
Here's one I pitted for back in the day. Larry Shields in Rush Johnsons Nova at Jackson Miss. View attachment 489133

I was pleased to find out that an elderly gent that I have been talking to was into stock car racing back in the late 40s, early 50s, after he got back from WWII. I'm trying to see if he's got any info from those days,...pics, programs, etc. awesome guy!!
Neat pictures, The picture in post #7 of the NASCAR Stock cars on the dirt has to be at Martinsville, VA. tell tale are the concrete bleachers and that red Va. clay.
I love the old style oval track cars....great pictures so far! Here's a link to a thread I started regarding 50's-60's Modified stock cars.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174989
