Not necessarily - yours will probably fit.

I recommend buying just the inner skin and then getting a local sheetmetal wizz to fit an outer skin that FITS YOUR CAR.

I've learnt that when repo companies state their products fit original cars, that may not be true.

A couple of you wanted to see the backing former. This is it,simple as.Ran it through the rollers to get the curve,it's not exact but it pulls up to the top former tightly.

Great work. Mind sharing what you used to hammer the hole edges? Hand held or power? Head shape?

    2. Ouch!

Using an already crowned piece of sheet metal (the Daimler roof) to fit a differently crowned/curved shape seems to me a bold move, indeed. You have any experience at this?

Perhaps displaying my ignorance, can you reduce the crown using an english wheel? And is that what you'll be using?

    Wow, indeed. -- Gary

Just hand tools.Broke the initial bend with a long reach panel hammer, then grabbed a length of heavy wall pipe and hammered it around the hole.

I'm interested to see what you do for the hinge point. I have to do something soon to my model A decklid. They want like 50 bucks for the hinge hardware. No thanks. I'll make mine.

    Nice job.

Couple more pics.Cut out a roof insert, stripped 40 odd years of paint off and clamped over frame. The crown is pretty close but still needs to get wheeled up.Just gotta wait for a visitor to give me a hand!

  28. Nice work Beater. I know where your coming from with the cost of buying from the US or anywhere offshore. The cost of getting it here is often as much or more than the value of the item.....let alone the fact that it is quite likely the part wont fit any how! At least if you make it yourself theres no else to blame!
