looking good Ryan!...I got faith in ya, thats for sure! Your doing a great job!

  3. Thanks Phil! I know you've been hard at work too....looking forward to seeing your car in person. It's been a while!

I ended up using a tail pan from another Chevy...this car was rotten all the way through the channel on the inside. It was a lot of work 'cause the donor needed cleaning up, but the price was right.

Yep, definitely chopping this one :)

Those things I can handle, but no using Red Bull cans to mock up the B pillars! haha

    Thanks guys.

Wow, that looks killer. But I am partial to shoeboxes and their windsplits. A friend had em on his old '52 Plymouth and they were the nicest part of the car!

I hafta ask though, all the nice metalwork but you uses frenching buckets? Why not make your own? Homemade ones that don't use the bezel look so much cooler on shoebox taillights IMO. Just a thought.

awesome...windsplits look great, gotta agree wit you there..lose the frenching kit and it will improve the looks greatly..

  17. Looks great, and you've given me some ideas for my own car. Taillights look like they grew there, and the fender extension is subtle enough I think a lot of folks will miss it unless you're parked next to a stocker.

I wonder if you could smooth that recess for the bumper using pieces from another set of quarters, the top of the opposite side turned upside down? Might have to cut the end off and turn it 90'. I think though with two sets you could round off the entire bottom of the quarter. (I'm thinking rolled pan type ideas here).

  18. Gotta agree with ya, I'm not proud of the buckets...haha. I've had 'em for a couple of years...at first I was going to use '49/50 lights and install 'em vertically, so I bought the buckets. Later I decided I wanted the windsplits, and even later I found those quarters and decided I wanted to extend the ones on my car. So this build has evolved from a few mild mods to a full kustom (partially because I've learned enough that I've deluded myself into thinking I can pull it off :D).

If I hadn't extended the quarters, I think I might have got away with the 'em...now I'm not 100% sure. I will say they definitely helped locate the windsplits, they don't fit Chevy quarters without some m***aging....hence the relief cuts.

One thing I knew all along was that I didn't want the lights mounted like a stock shoebox (even though I think they look GREAT, it's just TOO Ernst). I've already cut off the mounting plate 'cause I didn't like how deep they put the lights. I'd be interested in hearing anyones ideas on designing something different for the lights...this wouldn't be the first time I've welded something onto this car only to cut it back out to make it better.

Thanks Bill...that's what I was hoping to accomplish. Even though this has been a lot of work, I don't want it to look like it was.

That's an interesting idea...I don't have those pieces, but it will be hidden by the new bumper anyway. The hole for the bumper bracket will only need to come forward a couple of inches.

    Thanks, Bryan

Looks awesome! What are you going to do with the bottom of the rear quarters? Are you going to fill in the sheetmetal, or is it all part of a plan?
