Side note to anybody saying this is ok,

We are a train wreck waiting to happin.

Our corp leaders are looking the other way,and puting the cash in there pockets.

I our gov is looking the other way too, they could slow this down with an import tax program - one that would incourage ( MADE IN USA ) - were is it my elected officals..?

Our Country as a whole, is looking the other way - buying all this imported crap and coming up with a 1000 reasons why its ok.

Fair trade is only fair if all things are equal, They are not and never have been.

In the not to distant future, WE WONT BE ABLE to build or repair things.

The Industrial Power house that Made this country what it is will be lost.

A few make more money, but most get less.

We will be in deep - deep shit.

Does Knipex make any locking pliers? Those Germans have always made the best pliers anyway. As stated in erlier posts vise grips have been Chinese quality crap for years now. (since Irwin?)

I hope your not serious. Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were innovators and inventors, not thieves. They were out to build a better America and because of them a countless amount of jobs were created right here in the USA not destroyed. To compare those two to CEO's who knowingly send jobs overseas really pisses me off.

I do agree that the people who buy chinese are just as much to blame as the people who are in charge of taking thier jobs.

Income should be based on hard work, skill, dedication, and loyalty to a company. That should be your reason for getting up in the morning and busting your ass for something you believe in.

I personally will not step foot in a Wal-Mart, and do my damned best to not buy non-American products. If I cant afford something made in the USA, ill do without it if I can.

Sorry for the rant, If I have offended anyone I am sorry but that is what I believe.

    1. if you have to buy new stuff, spend the time to look for american made.

    2. if not possible, buy used / older nos stuff back when it was made in america. this is what i do when i buy converse shoes, for example.

    3. if there is no alternative, don't pick the least bitter poison. i'll buy stuff made in mexico any day over stuff made in china. i wont get into why, as i dont want to start an off topic debate.

our country is loyal to corporations that are not loyal to our country. someday separation between corporation and state must occur. until then...

  11. The loss of Vise Grip to China really pisses me offl! Guess I stay pissed off most of the time these days! Got several pairs of these little jewels - even a couple pairs from my dad that date back to the '50s that he used in the family business. Well this is becoming a classic story. The family owned business sells out to the big guys up stream who in turn do anything to maxamize profits. Making a good profit is not enough anymore. Bet these pig bastards even get a tax break! I just hope all those poor people who lost their jobs in Nebraska think twice about who they vote for this time. Corporate Amerika rules too much of our politics and too much of our lives! I try to resist some of this. There is a great satisfaction when ya say, " I don't do Wal Mart". Two things for sure:
    1. The corporate and suit types don't care about your job because they have a solid middle or upper class job!
    2. The next time I look to buy a new tool and it says "China", it won't go home with me!

Walking thru Target the other day and looked at their school supplies. They had three variations of pencils for sale.American-made with cedar,Chinese-made with sycamore or ? and Taiwanese-made with ? wooden shafts.Maybe pallot stock or old chopsticks?
    Who knows?
The American-made set included more for a slightly higher amount of money, were made of California cedar and even with the Chinese-manufactured pencil sharpener and American-printed container ! were the best deal.
The "USA GOLD" premium 12 set had a disclaimer on it that made me smile."Pencils made in the USA.Sharpener made in China.Assembled in the USA.Keep this information."
The term "domestically produced" is a new one,but I like it!
    Yaaay for us!

  13. maybe some of my posts on this thread made it seam that what was going on is ok by me..it isn't, i'm as upset as the next guy. i was just trying to point out why things are going to hell

read the book "the fall of the roman empire" we never seam to learn by our past mistakes..or other's mistake either

every great government has eventually failed..it may be our turn .i really think are country is domed , i'm just glad i will not be around for the worst of it

2 years ago tried by otc floor jack made in minnisota could not buy direct had buy through distriubtor only distributor was the snap on- guy or the mac tool dealer neither of them wanted to come to our shop unless they were gaurenteed a sale cause they gotta special order and it was to much work.. Got pissed at lazy usa salesman went to hf and bought a dozen floor jacks. Finally broke ( bent it slightly out of shape) a hf floor jack when we used on a 8000 lift truck.

Fyi: 15% of our customers are outside the usa

i specifically went to several stores a few weeks ago to buy a set of genuine american made vice-grips because im a professional tech and i dont use any foreign tools because they are (almost) all junk. i guess im glad i went shopping when i did. I'll no longer buy them. Am I the only one willing to pay extra for an american made-quality tool? im not even a real patriotic, flag-waving guy but it's a fact that we make better tools than anyone else in the world.

I have about 30 grips and always bought them because of the usa factor and high quality. The price was high but the quality was there. I doubt that the price goes down and the quality stays the same. A dam shame.

  25. I like a bargain. For years now I have had the choice of buying premium priced, high quality US made Vice Grips or a discounted functionally equivalent copy made off shore. And, while I don't buy a lot of Vise Grip products, I have chosen to purchase them over the off shore products and gladly paid the premium. Obviously, a lot of other Americans feel the same way. The good news is that with Vice Grip products coming from China now I no longer have a choice of paying the premium or feeling guilty. I can buy the cheaper, functionally equivalent off shore alternatives with a clear conscious. And I will.

Got maybe 8 pairs. The oldest inscribed by my grandfather "1961" Don't blame the people running Vise Grip. You and I started it when we allowed mom-n-pop to get run out by Wallyworld. Now everybodies gotta stay afloat. If I KNEW I could buy quality, Made in USA, I would pay for it. Sadly, pretty well everything is shit today. Either foriegn shit or cheap shit designed to compete with the foriegn shit. But hey, it's tax free dividends that matter, not the product, right? You can buy a new tool when ya break the old one and continue to support the cycle. If there was a job left that required the tool.

  27. This really sucks!!!! I have never bought cheap tools as it ends up costing you more in the long run when they break and you have to go back to the store and re-buy the same thing.

It is a shame as they are a good company and had a good product. I guess everyone here will be running out and buying up all thats left in stock.

Better get ready.... because once we're screwed out of our industry, we truly are a paper tiger waiting to be kicked over.
