Damn near every day! Rain is my only reason for keepin' her tied up and I've even been caught in it a couple times. It took me 32 years to get off my ass and build this thing. I like making up for all those nights reading car magazines and dreaming.
I am sure troy wont appreciate this story, but when i was alot younger and the street machine nats was in Duqoin Il he bought me a cheeseburger and signed a poster of that crazy wagon he built back in the day that had all the orion stereo equipment in it(I cant remember its name) He acted like just a regular dude when I met him at the burger stand I was young and didnt know who he was.........Now where did I put that poster lol
I have been to several open houses at Roger's shop and I would have had him build it. Is there something you don't like about his shop ?? It looks to me like nice stuff comes out of there.
You mean the purple/silver pro-street 'Vette? Yes, very nice car.... If it's the one I'm thinking of, it never will run and will end up in a casino in Vegas. It has to be one of the very few cars they've built that doesn't run... Malcolm
I remember meeting Troy after he built his first car (66 Chevelle). He was a great guy. I was in his lil shop when he was building the Rambler wagon. His builds are somooth and clean. He is talented. I did not like the 40 Ford convert that he built. Maybe it looks better in person.
I appreciate the workmanship but he has never built a car that I like. I wonder how many of you would be beating the shit out of the billet wagon if it was built by someone else? Hero worship is a funny thing.
I've seen that car in person and it is nice. I have always been an admirer of Troy and his shop's work though.
The year this was built, Glenn drove it to Back to the 50's here in MN...just....plain...awesome. They even cruised Porky's in it.
I have seen this car at back to the fifties a few times. It is one of the few cars I can stop and spend some time with every time I see it. Brad
Yeah, they actually drove Chicayne on the Power Tour one year! If I remember correctly, they lost the hood latch and it blew up going down the highway. DOOH!! That car just barely edged my Camaro out for "Chevy of the Year" for CHP mag. LOL!
Oh yeah! It was this car that made me discover Troy's work and is still one of my favorite custom cars to date! Troy sure knows how to do them different.
Same here. I'm still amazed how nicely they were able to get the roof line flow with the car, knowing that they started with a '54 Plymouth Convertible!
if you ever get a chance to stop in his shop, you will meet a guy that is a hell of a builder, a talented group to back him up, and no ego.
sniper would be a really awesome custom had they/he not put those god aweful benz or whatever the hell they are headlights in it....
I've worked for Roger. Nice work does come out of there. But he's no where near Rad Rides. Not by a long shot. Compare anyone of his cars to even Troy's earliest work and it should make up your mind.
I like alot of his cars. Chicayne is awesome in person. I spoke to his Dad once and he was telling me about driving it around Nor Cal when they were out here with it. Compared being on the freeway and punching it to like being in a jet. I believe it. That Roadster they did was awesome. Saw it at the same show. Very traditional and subtle with a lot of hidden details like efi. I think they had a stereo hidden in an vintage heater.
Here are some pictures of the roadster that I found on here years ago and saved and then cropped. I don't know who the photographers were. As I recall, the wheels were machined from aluminum to look like steelies. Look closely. There are a lot of subtle details here, like the tasty slight curve in the rear spreader bar and the trailing edge of the gas tank. True artists. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
I first met Troy when he came to Toronto with the turquoise '60 Impala,...a very "down to earth", humble guy with an "awe shucks", very likeable kind of personality, and he always seems to have time to talk and answer questions. I think this and a lot of hard work and talent has brought him the terrific success that he has today.
The coolest subtle mod to that caddy is the bumpers are 6 peices in front and 5 in back...he welded them up, smoothed them and rechromed...clean! Wish I could afford to do that to my caddy!
I actually agree with that, someones got to try new things, and they really kinda fit the flow of that car, but it's something that never should have become a trend. It barely worked on that car, and hasn't come close to working on anything I've seen since.
