I need to find a good junk yard or salvage yard in central arkansas...or really anywhere if its worth driving for. I need parts for 60s model f100s... and some of those parts can be salvaged from 70s model trucks. for instance a steering column for powersteering...which Im on the market for.
Theres a yard in N.W.Ar. between Garfield and Gateway, on Hwy. 62, that has a lot of old trucks. Sorry, I don't know the name. He has a bunch of old 50's & 60's Fords and Chevys.
a couple months ago at our local breakfast meeting I heard one of the guys talking about one over in the bald knob searcy or cabot area... I forgot which. that wouldnt be too bad a drive from conway

There's the Vintage Salvage at Possum Grape near Bradford-Bald Knob, there's Sonny in Maumelle, there's some stuff in Greenbrier, there's Merriman over at Plumerville. Let me know when would be a good time to go junkyard crawling, and maybe we can make it a HAMB thing. Duncan
I love me a junkyard crawl. A friend of mine and I made an all day run along I-40 to Ft. Smith stopping everywhere we could find a yard and asking for referrals to more along the way. We didn't find much but had fun. We did end up at some place near Alma that had a few old cars. Not a bunch, but he did have a 53 Buick I got the side trim off of for my someday Merc. I'll try to figure out where it was and let you know Sat. at breakfast.
I was just in Darrell's in Greenbrier a couple months back. not really remember any thing even in 70's there. Robert's yard, north of Gber, Southwest of the ATV track may have something in there.. Prout's, North of Clinton has a handful of trucks. the crushers have picked over all the cars there the last I knew, some trucks still there..
Sweet. I will have to give those a call. I intended on doing that today, but ended up cleaning the garage and TRYIN to remember how to weld.... lol. Its been about 11 years or so. All I can say is it looked like a gorilla was welding. not pretty lol. after about 20 min of finding scrap to weld I finally got a steady bead! I was proud...and then I learned a lesson. never weld with sandals on.. youch. I agree prowling a salvage yard is always fun. Especially for me being 27 I usually always spot a car Ive never seen before. for instance I found a I think he said German Mustang or something. apparently its the same thing just little different body. mid 80s late 70s ish.
Hey Duncan was looking on google maps tryin to find that place in "possum grape" .... I never even heard of that place!! but its on the map! anyway... I found what looked like a place on 367 on the left before you get to possum grape. is that the place? I couldnt find anything about merrimans in plumerville. got any directions? As far as a hamb junkyard crawl... anytime is fine with me... Im off mondays saturday and sunday.... but I can take off pretty much when I need to. So sounds like a good time.
I didnt find a roberts ... but I did see a prouts north of clinton on 110 listed as prouts garage. is that the one you are refferin to ?
I realize this thread is way old, but I found this site and most of the stuff seems to be in the central Arkansas area. http://www.bobbittville.com/bobbittville-links.htm. Strange layout, but maybe someone will find something interesting.
One place I found a lot of cars several years ago was in Paris Ark. Old guy name Heathcock owned the place.I found him by stopping at the paint and body shops and just asking where is any junk yards that have old cars and trucks. They sent me to him and I would up buying 25 cars and trucks from him. He had many acres of old cars and trucks up to 66. Every one in that town knew this guy and if he is still there should have plenty of cars left.
Please refer to this thread. It highlights others not listed here.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=545289&highlight=arkansas+junk+yard
