My Dad wants to build a 37 Ford. I always keep an eye out, and any time I see something I try to get him to buy it. No luck yet, business hasn't taken off enough yet to allow the kind of project he wants.

I am trying to get my younger brother to build something with me, since hes almost driving soon. We're only a few years apart but our tastes are vastly different. He wants a Civic.

I couldn't have built my 51 without my Dad!

Actually he's the one who told me about the HAMB originally as well.

Me and my dad have had a project in our garage for 10 years. It's almost finished now. That car is his and isn't really HAMB friendly. He helps me out with my projects though. Dad doesn't know that much about cars so he usually does grunt work but he likes it and likes to help out. I'm going to teach him how to weld pretty soon.

Welp, Me and my pops used to work side by side till I went into the military....now he's my voice of reason and the main man I call when I gotta shoot ideas by him....

Me and my boy (now three) work in the garage together....He "helps" me "fix the truck daddy" Most the time he gets in the way.....I dont really care though...he's already learned the difference between a flat head and a phillips and a ratched and open end....dig it!

Sometimes i'm kinda bummed my Dad isn't mechanical. Love they guy to death but the last time he tried to work on something a mini-mushroom cloud came up out of the vcr he was ''fixing.'' And there was the time he tried to splice into a red vacuum line when looking for a power wire for his CB radio. Oh well, at least he's good at being a dad. If i ever have a kid i'll have him in the garage with me.

I'm 70 now, Dads been gone a long time but in (the day, 50s) we had to cut wood for winter. He MADE this crazy saw, and it worked great. My job was hauling the stuff. I'd load the wheel barrow, it would tip over, lots of work. Finally he brought the 40 Chevy to the barn and said (take out the back seats and load it up. When that was done, he said OK drive it to the house and unload it. Well that old saw couldn't keep up any more, I was 12, soon after he got me my second car, this one ran, a 30 A tudor, and that was the start of it. Still have two 29s today. Ice man

  9. Well, I don't think this should be only for father/son teams. I've been watching my dad work on cars for as long as I've been alive. He's helped me work on my coupe (or rather show me what to work on) and I'm eternally grateful for it! In turn I help him out with his cars. I wouldn't have it any other way. :D

My father and I built our coupe together. KInda learner along the way, as neither of us knew how to build one. We're starting a 27 roadster this winter..

  11. Mt Dad's gone now, but he's the one that got me interested in cars, bought me my first tool set, taught me how to do brakes, set valves, and do tune-ups, and he immediately forgot how(he had passed the torch), but he was always supportive and was never reluctant to help me out when I was in a bind. I'll always miss him.

I envy those whose Dad worked with them on cars. My dad, who has been gone now for 21 years, wasn't interested in anything mechanical. My son, who is 21, is not interested either, even though he was taken to car shows, etc. I am jealous of but also happy for those who build and enjoy cars as a family; count it as a great blessing.

I'm 32 yrs old and me and my dad are still working on projects together. Currently, we're dropping an old corvette motor in his '55 chevy, and putting a new motor/trans in my '54. We also used to make a living restoring old gas pumps together. That will never change as long as both of us are still alive. We went to the salt flats together for the first time this year, and I'm worried that we now have the salt bug. I may die before him now, since I'm definitely hooked on going fast....:D

Passed projects my dad and I have worked together on: '40 Ford tudor, another '40 Ford tudor, '48 Ford coupe, and more I'm sure.....

Memories that I hope I can duplicate with my kids in the future...

My dad is the reason I'm into cars. All my growing up years we had something cool, but it had to be the family car because he just couldn't afford a garage project.

Fast forward to now, he has a '32 highboy roadster, a '30 Sport Coupe, a '55 Chevy Bel Air hardtop, and a '50 Ford two door sedan. I've got my '31 Tudor, my '60 Bel Air two door post, and my wife's '48 5-window pickup. Sold the '41 last night, so we're now a three hot rod family. :(

All three of my boys are hot rod freaks, and so are my eight girls! Hot rodding is truly a family function for us!

My son and I have been working together since I bought him his first car to work on at the age of 14 and today at 29 he's still helping me on my cars and working on his. We both enjoy the work as well as spending time together doing something we both love. And it really helps having a younger person there for some of the heavy lifting. We've done 3 engine builds in the past year.

It's great to see so many family teams out there, building rods.
My dad,he's a good dad but has never been mechanically inclined.
He'll help me out no problem if I need a hand with lifting something or stuff like that and he does listen when I tell him about what I'm doing and explain it all to him,but it's not his scene.

Still, that's fine with me as he's a great guy.
If I ever have kids I'm dragging them down into the garage for sure though!!

I caught the bug from my dad, even though he wont admit it haha. What bothers me though is he gave me the chance to start a project with him while I was in high school and we did, but being 15 I thought I had better things to do and we sort of abandoned the project. Im now 22 and live 400 miles away from him. I now understand that not putting effort into that project was one of my biggest mistakes in my life.

I now work in the racing industry, (I have the bug so bad I had to turn it into a career). My biggest goal in life right now is to make a promise that I made to him come true, that he and I will drive my first hot rod I build to bonneville for speed week.

My dad is my best friend and I cannot wait to have kids so that I can pass the fuel fever onto them.

My father is the reason I'm in this, he ruined my life when I was younger by showing me American Graffiti, I never had a chance...

he's been withought a cool car since he sold his '66 Cornet when I was 5 or 6, but in the past couple of years I've really helped with re-sparking the flame and he's always looking out for a new ride, he's a muscle car guy but I won't hold that against him!

Every project and every car ive put togehter has been a father and son project, my dads an ol gearhead who has been wrenching since he was 13- he used to hang out at Blairs speed in pasadena and drag race at irwindale (when it was 1/4 mile) - Im blessed and will always remember these times as some of the best that can be had!

My Dad and I got my '51 Chevy pickup running after we swapped engines and opened up the driveline back in 1979. I left home and went to college shortly after that. Pop passed away in 1987, but by that time I had started my own family.

Both of my boys have had a hand in working on and driving the old pickup over the years (my youngest son took it to Prom) and they are old truck nuts in their own right. I still have the old pickup--it's just off the road for a spell--for some much needed cleanup and fix-up.

My grand-daughter is now 2 1/2. I wonder if she will have an interest in the old Chevy pickup? Time will tell... :)
