Come again Kurt, I did not get the question. Who's Muttley??

Here are the kids, the morning after the shoot. From left to right:

Frank O'Leirey (FRESNO), Kyle Clifford (ART), Jordan Warren (TOMMY) and Tim McReynolds (JOHNNY CALLAWAY).

Fresno's sweet red roadster belongs to Dave who has been incredibly supportive and generous by letting us use it for all these shoots. It will also be at the big Saugus Dragstrip scene on 09/27.

The 35 Ford truck in the back is Tommy's truck. It belongs to another awesome hard core dedicated hotrodder named Peter, from "Kick the can" studios. Peter is a wonderful photographer by the way. peter spent 4 full nights on the set with us, driving his truck to our shoot nightly and staying up all night helping us with whatever we needed, including carrying gear, holding the boom mic, taking behind the scenes photos. I will be sure to share more here soon.

If this doesnt kick rodding in the ass and get it all started again I dont know what will. Some of the rodding industry should help back this flick.

    Yeah, really, eh?

I would love for Coker to get behind this. Just about all the tires in the film's flashbacks are HIS :D. And I have a lot of cool close up shots of them.

How about it Mr. Coker?? :)

If anything, some free tires for the Deuce of Spades would be nice, we've been driving it hard for the film and my rear tires are looking like slicks now....

below: Johnny gives a 3 car length head start to ZIP, to even out the odds some. Shot this last Thursday at Sunset.

Oh, here, I found a few more screengrabs from that shoot. The road was a quarter mile abandonned straight road, no lines, no houses, no traffic, dead end, out in the middle of nowhere.

    HEAVEN :D...

And NO, I am not going to tell you where it is ;). And neither is Kevin :), by the way (that is, if he wants to LIVE) :D.

So we "run" the "buggies" there and filmed away. As I was packing my camera up, a Highway Patrol car shows up. Apparently, they are keeping an eye on that road (well DUH!).

I'm like yikes !! We are going to be in Megga trouble now. We all play it super cool like this was as normal as could be...

He pulls up, looks at the jalopies, (still lined up, by the way ) and goes:

" I just wanted to look at your cars"

So he takes a quick looksie and then he goes:

"OK, well, I'll let you finish your business"

    AND DRIVES AWAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D Lady Luck smiles upon us again...

Ahhh the magic of movies... That road only has trees on one side (they are actually lemon groves). On the other side, a clutter of BIG RIGS ...

To make it look like the trees were on both side I had to INVENT trees. :D... The branches you see in the foreground are actually cut from the lemon trees across that road and are being held by two actors who shook them as the cars passed by LOL.

Guess I my idea worked HAHA!

Here is a few shots of what is really on the other side of that road (behind the scene photos of Flashback Scene #1):

Hope the world is not overly desperate to be saved, cause there aren't that many of us hotrod girls around LOL...

By the way, who is D.A. Sabastion?

I recently bought a collection of old 50's hotrod B flicks, Including "the fast and the furious' (the original one, from the 50's, which featured a Jaguar), "the devil on wheels", "hotrod Gang" etc etc...

When I saw the 32 roadster in "The Devil on wheels" I almost fell off my couch. It looks almost identical to mine! There's a cool run in that flick, with a bunch of roadsters. The most useful flick to me was Hotrod gang. It had good shots of 50's hotrods, a few "street races" and a number of good 50's streets shots, which are always helpful to me. I also learned a few more 50's slang words. As is often the case with these 50's B flicks, the lack of plot, over the top acting and corny dialogues leave you wondering, but I still enjoyed watching them ... I've been doing quite a bit of research, homework, to become as intimately familiar with the early 50's era as possible (clothes, shoes, hair cuts and styles, slang, furniture, architecture etc etc..)

As a person who has grown to know Faith very well over the past year, I can tell all of you without hesitation that Faith is the most dedicated and talented person I've ever known. And a nicer more gracious lady you'll never meet. She has assembled a fantastic cast and crew, made-up of mostly volunteers like me. All of us believe in Faith and her dream. As you can see from Faith's postings and comments, this no-budget Indie Hot Rod movie going to be amazing. By the way, my three vintage cars will be in this Movie. Your car can too!! If you live anywhere near the L.A. area, you really must have your period correct car in the big 1955 Saugus Drag Strip scene. It will be a historical day for the Hot Rodding and vintage car hobby. And while you are at it, you might do as I have done, and contribute a few dollars to the cause. Faith is doing miracles with virtually no money and it's the least we can do if we really want to see this awesome movie completed. Please visit: www.deuceofspadesmovie.com and do your part. Thank you! -Jerry:>)

Hey Jerry! Good to see you on here. Ready for the Dinner shoot? Guess what? My camera took a dive on me Tuesday . All the dust from El Mirage and the cars, racing, finally got to it. I was SOOOO grateful that it politely waited until we were DONE filming Johny's last race. Oh, nice NICE camera!!! I dropped it off to Panasonic yesterday and they said they'll have it back and ready for more action in a jiffy :D. Meanwhile, my good buddy filmmaker Luis is loaning me his for our Sunday shoot. It's identical. While I was at his pad picking up the gear, two more filmmakers dropped in. Everyone was very impressed by the footage I showed them. While all of them are making horror, action (lots and lots of Irak war films) or comedy flicks, I feel priviledged that I have such a unique, cool, compelling topic for my film. They all said: "You are doing a FULL FEATURE PERIOD DRAMA ON A NOOOO BUDGET AND IT'S YOUR FIRST FILM??????????"

They could not believe that I was actually PULLING IT OFF. And on a crew of one or two, no less!

    :D

    Go figure.

My buddy Luis, who is a tech wizzard, said: "Geese Faith, you're making us look like chomps"

    LOL.

The shoot photos taken by several hotrodders who came to our desert shoot last week-end, are starting to trickle in. :)

This shot was taken by Garth, and it's really awesome. In the film however, everything is very dark because the race was done at midnight, in the dark, hush hush if you know what I mean. So the footage has that "dark and mysterious" omminous feel to it. So you won't be able to see the cars clearly like this photo shows, but the photo is so cool I wanted to share it.

hey Faith, this couldv happened back in the day! However it also could'v gone the other way. Back then I lived those times, you are getting it pretty close. Where I lived [Riverside ca.] there were lots of orange groves, and we raced out in the 'groves', mostly at night. And in the early 50,s there were many roadsters, and early cars. There were deserted roads available but sometimes the cops would get tipped off or somebody called complained. If the cops showed up everybody scrambled and there were a lotta people wandering out there abandoned, Later we would go out and gather them up gggg. [ I once had my 2dr A with 8 passengers] Flatheads ruled, but by the mid 50,sthe overheads were getting prevalent. Early 50,s we wore Levi,s with tall cuffs, engineer boots, white T shirts, and ducktail haircuts. As the 50,s went the cuffs shortened dre and cars changed with the introduction of the muscle cars. So you are doing good and its good you really want to know about the 'old days', and a lot of info's here in the HAMB. sadly those details were left out in the old 'hot rod' movies, with there corny dialogue and plots, and for 'real' rodders, they notice those things dave m

    Great stories Dave :))

There is a scene in the film where the kids are just released from jail after spending the night there. They had blocked off Sepulveda Blvd and made an improvised race track and got busted by about 30 cop cars. We hear them talk about their "scrambling" and diving into cabage patches and open garages to try to escape the Police (but I guess they didn't do that good of a job, since they are talking about it while sitting in front of the JAIL)

Below: You can recognize Jeff Granger from the jalopy race teaser ("Is there a problem, officer? LOL) and ZIP (in a blue varsity jacket) and far right TOMMY MILLER, our beloved chain-smoker-zippo-lighter-always-in-hand trouble maker.

Below: This fine 1950 Authentic Police car, featured in the film, was donated by a Police officer, who plays well.. you've guessed, THE POLICE OFFICER in our teaser and film. He is truly a great guy and had a blast shooting with us. he as a real sport about the whole taking a pee thing etc... No, that was fake pee LOL. I will be filming him again next week-end. No peeing involved this time.

Oh yeah, this was filmed Monday morning at 6Am after the sun came up and we had to wrap. We had been filming for 3 nights in a row, sleeping all day and working from 4PM to 7Am every night. This was the last night and I filmed, behind the camera, standing on my two feet without ever sitting down once for 14 hours or so. And I had a cold. It was windy and very cold that night. I also had to stand in a narrow cage up in the air at the top of a forklift, and filmed that way for over an hour. Got some great overhead shots of the race that way!! I also hang out of my roadster, door wide open, filming the red roadster, hanging on with my foot so I would not fall out (I was handheld carrying the heavy camera with both hands). On another occasion I sat on the cowl, facing backwards leaning back over the hood and Tim was hanging on to my leg so I would not fall over and get run over.

    FUN STUFF.

Anyway, At wrap time, I was still a bundle of energy, from sheer adrenalin. This was the most awesome shoot to date I will never forget that night and all the great people on my set who came together to help. We had not ONE single industry person with us, all of us were either actors or hotrodders (and in some instances, BOTH). :D

YES WE NEED CARS!!!!!!!!! Where is everybody??? I can't have a dragstrip scene with only 10 cars in it. Come on you guys, get your asses in GEAR and PM me to add your car to the shoot. Help me out, here! This opportunity is not coming back (who knows, maybe for another 30 years??). So here it is now, knocking at your doors, please support this effort and contribute by bringin' your 1955 or older car to my shoot on Sat 09/27. All pre-1956 cars welcome, but pre-1956 period correct stock and hotrods will be parked up front, closer to the camera and seen more prominently.

Spend one day with us and immortalize your car forever.

Please help me gather more cars by telling all your local friends!!

Oh and the movie link is actually: www.deuceofspadesmovie.com (Brian made a typo LOL)

    oooops!!!

cool history and story on the sagus drag strip
    http://www.scvhistory.com/scvhistory/watkins-butch.htm

    here is a paragraph...

... The old 6-S airfield (at present-day Whites Canyon Road in Canyon Country) was better known as the Saugus drag strip. Long before the Lyons and other well known drag strips were in business, we raced cars at the old air strip. I raced my first car there in 1953 before I had a drivers license. We raced all day on Saturdays and Sundays. We paid the owners 50 cents per car, per day. If a plane wanted to land it called the owners' house by radio; the owner then drove out onto the landing strip and honked his horn. This was the signal for everyone to move their cars quickly to the side of the strip. The plane would land, we would be told if it was going to stay or depart soon, and our racing would react accordingly.

  25. I'll bring my Merc if you still want to use it! Send me some info on where to be on 9/27,Faith.

Right now I am gathering names and email addresses of all cars that will be there, creating a "CALL LIST". Then when we are about 1 week away from the shoot I will send all the details.

For now suffice to say that cars will be allowed into the gates at 6AM. I will be filming all day until we lose the sun :(, which, when filming, ALWAYS happens WAY TOO FAST. At which time the cars will be released.

The property/ airstrip is very pretty, up on the hills, nothing around, very quiet. Let's hope for good weather!! :)

Location is Agua Dulce vascinity (and NO we are NOT filming at the Agua Dulce airport, cause they asked for $8,000 (sheesh, no less!) for ONE day of filming. At that price, they can sh... their airstrip up their nostril ;).) Our good contributor, Dr Chang gave us his strip for FREE. Suffice to say that Clint Eastwood was scheduled to film there right before the fire swept through the property. So I am honored he would let me have it for free. He really loves old cars and is a believer in the film's concept.

The air strip is smaller but with the right lens it will look real good. :D

    Faith,

I can confirm two cars right now and one or two more if I can find drivers (from Costa Mesa). All my friends are being weenies and dont want to go that far and sit around. Sheesh!

I will be bringing the 32 roadster and the 36 cabriolet. May also bring the 36 3-window and the 50 ford convertable, but need bodies to drive them.

We may be heading up Friday night and staying over near the shoot. If I do this, what town should I get a hotel in? I don't want to wait until the week before to make reservations, besides it is only two weeks away now so why dont you send us the info? Quit being so mysterious!

    Thanks,

    John
