okay then...i have these scoops that i got from PLOWBOY [others know him on here as sherry] last yr at the rock n rods show...anywho....tonight i went to screw them on my 3X2 setup and the screws are too high to meet the carb lip! anyone ran into this prob?? if so, how did you fix it without altering the scoop itself? i dont wanna f*^k them up, cause they were on the atomic punk , and we all know how famous Aaron will be someday.....{when they find all the body's] thanks in thepants...... TDD pictures.....
Can we see a pic with one of the scoops off ? Maybe use the holes and screws in the scoops to hold a small piece of bar with the ends bent down , and use the original air cleaner bolt to hold it all in place ?
I had issues of the screws eventually strip'n out so I just rubbed a thin layer of 3M weather stripping and just glued them lil********s on. If needed just a little brut force of a turn and they will come off. I got tired of them coming loose.
The easiest thing to do is drill and tap another hole in each one and use small set screws. Thats what I had to do. When they're mounted you don't even notice the additional set screws. I could send you a pic but it would be for a few days at least.
closest thing i got on me for pics is....... as i stated before, I'm NOT going to drill more holes in them....there old, and i like them to much to floored, {dickster27] sells the vib....err umm...oil tubes if you wanna get one for the wife! tman...i think you have put your motor in back wards
fyi...the screws just miss the lip...but as i said,, im not grinding on the scoops..so another route is in order!!
Remove the existing screws. Go with a smaller screw with a head that will not go through the hole. Tap a small strip of metal stock, say 1/4' wide and 1" long. Tap the hole towards one end so at least 3/4 the length is hanging down.Put the scoop over the carb with the newly added tabs inside the carb rim and tighten the screws pulling the plate against the inside of the carb throat. Use locktite or burr the end of the thread, you don't want these tabs to get loose and fall inside the carb. Or put them in place and use a dab of JB Weld someplace easy to get to.
this is what i was gonna suggest. or the clear goop adhesive. there a guy in town whose entire t bucket is held together with that*****, lol.
I think I built a small bracket to fit around the air horn before the scoop was placed on, and used the existing holes on the scoop along with a threaded bolt or something down the center of the carb- ill try to get a pic
