A friend of mine took these photos of the real car last Monday that was used in the filming of American Graffiti... thought you might enjoy them. This car is not a clone, it's the real deal.

Rick Figari (owner of the Graffiti coupe) did tell me the same owner still had it all these years and kept it garaged in his Vallejo California home. He did say that the owner moved to Washington not long ago and brought the car with him.

    very cool pictures !

Are you absolutely sure it is the original one? That is the 7th one over the years that I have seen that claimed to be "THE" original but none of them had the camera runners on the bottom under the rockers, but the original one did. Also, the original had striping around the trim as well as a stripped scallop oround the roof area and that looks a lot like it's fogged to me.

What he said... Why would you do that?

  20. That's the 2nd bitchinist car in the valley!

The line in the movie was "it's gotta 327 with 6 strombergs" when a "348 with a tri-power" would've sounded just as cool to me..

    Probably my favorite 58 Impala....
It's either the original of a damn good clone of it...
Regardless, it's a damn shame the third pedal's laying on the floor like a wounded dog......
i'd still love to have it though ...i'd just pop that slushbox and cookie cutter shifter out of there and slid in a nice handshaker back in :) :)

  22. Yes, the original was fogged.

Small things get changed over the years, even if it's 36 to date.

Stop Wondering Guys The 58 is THE ORIGINAL. Mike Bought it from Henery Travers back in the early 70's when filming for Graffiti wrapped and has owned it ever since. It is a super fine machine! Better than...well you know.:D

Graffiti32 is right, Mike bought it from [SIZE=-1]Henry Travers before the movie was even released, and he got it for I think around $300. A friend of mine went to interview Mike and photograph the car. And yes, that YouTube video is the the same car and owner. Mike has done minor modifications over the years, but nothing that couldn't be put back from the looks of it if somebody wanted a museum piece rather than a driver. Either way, super bitchen!

Man it looks good after all these years....the stance, appears to be correct tires...it's all dead on perfect. I diddo the shifter thing...one would question that...but to each their own...easily changed if desired.

The car, like the others in the movie, is an icon! I would be proud to own it!!

I did my research and hey, DAMN, I was wrong, it was fogged. It is amazing how you tent to forget things over the years. Anyway, it is still a kool ride after all these years.
