Til we know more, guess we'll just have to categorize beaulieu as a K car restorer and assume it's an Aries K convertible.

(if that doesn't provoke full disclosure, don't know what will):D

Get a tractor...then lift very carefully. My coupe was down in the dirt at least 10 inches. Pulling it out would have put a lot more pressure on it.

Smart people would rent a Skidsteer or mini excavator, and skip the caveman BS, what is this pile anyway?

  7. You have to lift or jack the car straight up, and fill in the ruts it was sitting into.

A car with flat tires will skid easier if you have a junk hood to slip upside down under the front of it. But it's better to change them - don't even try to inflate the old ones.

We've found they come out nice and easy if you can back a rollback up to them. Lift up with it, then pull it on a little at a time.

As for pulling it from the back, that's probably a bad idea, unless the trees are huge and thick, cut them down, there's always the chance that they have roots growing into the suspension, too.

But it really depends on the type of car, too, if it has a full frame, check it over for rot, if the frame is okay it should come out in one piece. Unibody can be another story. You may want to pull directly on the rear axle and not on the bumper or body.

  8. Ha, Ha, Could this be the James Dean car he stacked up so long ago?

  11. Good to hear that. Absolutely no use for thieves on this board.

  12. Get some chains or cables and attach to the front suspension if yuo are going to try to pull it backwards. You might get a couple of house trailer axles and wheels under it even one axle would be a great help. We use our wrecker dollies in this manner sometimes. Get a long hose with a snap on end to try and put air in the tires from a safe distance. Dont get in to big a hurry take yout time Good luck :D OldWolf

if theirs acess to a hose you might flood the ground a bit to help re soften it for removal. it'll pu less strain on the chasis and frame that way

Doesn't everyone know a buddy with a backhoe?

An operator and a couple of chains. Very versitile machines. A good operator can do magic with a backhoe.

I have done this before. We would dig out from under it to put a jack under it. If the drums won't turn take them off, then put some wheels with aired up ties on and pull it out

Aw common admit it's a 356, if it is I can tell you from experience that you should cover it with dirt and forget it. They don't have a frame just a VW-like pan, and instead of being bolted onto the pan like a VW they are welded on. Parts for 356's aren't cheap, even a cabriolet like what that appears to be would be a money pit of biblical proportions.

its not the car on my post ( I wish it was ! ) , its a 6 cyl , rear wheel drive convertible 3000 pound beast ,
so no reason to speculate because I am not telling :)

I know many have dug out cars much worse (and deeper) than this , just trying to get some other iideas I have not thought of ,

I might try a backhoe to lift it up so I can get something solid under the wheels,
I just do not know anyone around there with one......

Anyway if you have any other ideas let me know ,

    Thanks Beaulieu

Big tyres are great on soft ground. I also found that a crowbar with a chisel end is much better for smashing off brake drums (sometimes they just wont come off) than a hammer. If its really buried, one of those inflatable bag type jacks like the 4x4 guys use might be good, the ones that you connect to an exhaust pipe.

What I've done with frozen drums is cut em with a torch. Just go right around the hub so the drum sits there and the hub spins inside. If they are sitting in the dirt you will most likly ruin the drums before you ever got them off, or freed up. Otherwise a shovel, a jack and wood to set the jack on so it dosn't sink.

Good luck!! I'm jelous. I love a good scrounging trip....

  26. Front drums you can usually get off, by removing the outer wheel bearing and nut, and worrying them loose. Unbolting the wheel cylinders (or busting the bolts right off) also gets you some wiggle room. Rears are tougher, I've never gotten rears off without wrecking them. A cutoff wheel in a grinder can help cut through especially the ones where they're a cast wear surface on a steel face.

(1)Go to a mobile home dealer and borrow a set of trailer axles. Jack it up, slid em under, and go home. or,(2) take 2 railroad ties, cut ends like a sled runner, drill hole on runner end. Jack car up, place runners underneath, take chain thru the hole in the runners. put a piece of pipe to keep them from pulling together. (3) get some 2x10's and some motor oil, make em slick and pull
