So I gave away all of my old Rod and Customs. What's that old saying about junk being what you need right after you toss it out? Anyhow, I'm hoping someone here can scan the article that ran on carving your own tiki heads out of old telephone poles. I kinda need to see it! Also, if anyone has any info, advice, or links to sites on carving tikis, I'd love too know about 'em. Thanks
There's a pretty good magazine that's published locally here in San Diego...simply called Tiki magazine and they usually have features on Tiki carvers, etc...usually pick it up at Border's or Barnes and Noble
hightest, don't use telephone poles. Crappy wood. Use palm or something else. I carve palm and am a member of Tiki Central. Cool site but kinda no so user freindly on reading posts. Not like the hamb. Heres one of mine.
That tiki is killer...wouldn't mind having that on the back patio...post up some more pix if ya have them
yo hightest, all the info you need is on TikiCentral.. do a search on carving and you will find plenty of info on type's of wood to use.. I'm also a member on TC and theres a lot of kool carvers on there....Here's one that I did
It is for sale but I got a lot of time in to it. PM me if your really interested. I carve all the time and can do whatever you want and fit your budget.
I've got a four footer a buddy carved for me. It's pretty bitchin'! He finds palm stumps in the alleys around town from recently removed trees and turns them upside down so the wide part is on top. He carves the with a grinding wheel with chain saw teeth that he bought on the internet somewhere. He's made sveral.
BAM!!!! Here's my ku-bar!! oh, and if ya have any tiki mugs that you dont want, send them to me... hope ya find that article I'm telling ya , tiki is addictive...
I like tikis, have since I was a kid. I thought it was kinda funny when i went to the tikiroom website that the first thread I opened was guys arguing about why traditional tikis are better than newer style ones. I've found some neat small ones lately at swap meets. I'm going to snap some pics later and post em.
