I was just sitting here thinking about the HAMB and the next 2 grand I need to spend on the Chevy. And I had a real dumb idea. I brought this car from a guy at the Back to The Fifties rod show in St. Paul. He definitely was not a car guy. But he gave me the name of the former owner. I called the guy who said he bought the car from a dealer but he knew it was built in Nebraska. I know it's an older build but I liked the car. I was wondering if there's a chance of anybody who new who built the car or knows who did. There's a couple of pictures here in the site. I was toying around with the idea of placing an ad in Street Rodder or the Gazette then it occured to me I might try to get some info here.
Well I was hoping somebody recognized the car. It's an old build so it's been around awhile. The guy I brought it from and the owner previous to that had no do***entation whatever. While I was rebuilding it I used the casting numbers and help from the local rod shop(Custom Cl***ics) to try and identify the parts. I live a couple of miles from Gary Heidt's place. I have know him for many years and he was a help. I'm also only a couple miles from The Roadster Shop and they were a help as well. One of my good friends is the head electrical engineer at Snap-On and he made a schematic for me out of the rat's nest under the dash. My friend Roger Rosebush owner of Be Cool helped with the overheating problem( it was chronic). I need new steering linkage. Borgeson can rebuild it. It's only half inch with two universals and no center support. A 14 inch steering wheel could bend that easily. I bought It's-A Snap wiper kit and Big Al's blades to get a decent set of wipers on it and a friend is milling me a couple of wedges to get the proper angle on them. I ordered a new set of tires from Diamond Back (black wall smoothies) to replace the snow tires the last owner put on there. As for air and heat I don't know what I'm going to do. I could have bought a more complete car but I just couldn't resist that way cool chop. Who ever did it did a great job and I really like the stance of that car. Moody's Upholstery is owned by a guy that I work with in the litho trade and he has been dolling up the interior for me a little at a time. Once I got the ignition straighten out, a set headers and rebuilt the carb (Q-Jet) it ran like a scalded dog. I would very much like to place that carb with a Demon. I'm told it really wakes up a 350. I'm just waiting to run into a deal. I get the chills when I look a Summit's price. Well that's some of the things I need to accomplish and reason Must be one of those OZ things way down there in Perth. I have heard that Greg Weld p***ed away about month ago so I decided to hang onto the Rodlights and maybe someday I'll do something with those leaf springs. Anyway I wrote this is because as educated as I think I am I just don't get what the heck the smell of toast is? it hasn't been the warmest of receptions for a club I've so many good things about. But I figure this will give somebody who is particularly bored something to read. Just to give you a idea of where I had to bring this back from, this was the battery box.
"it hasn't been the warmest of receptions for a club I've so many good things about". Whatever gave you the idea that this was a "club"? Frank
Oh I don't know; it has a logo, you apply to become a member, you can pay dues and get a fancy plaque, they hold drags and shows, I guess I misunderstood.
I would also call the previous owners friend as well. He knows the other guy. They might know or you could paint it.
where do these FNG's come from? some rant and *****, some get flamed..some dont understand what traditional is, some get their ******* all in a bunch if everyone doesnt see it their way. some just cant stop using the RR word..even after they are shown the reason its not used here. others ...just cant take a good ribbing.. thicken up dude.. or dont go away mad..just go away.. 90% of the guys here are just messing with you..relax...****xssss!
Well I always wanted a "traditional" rod I know there's a million definitions for that, but there's more deuces out there then Henry ever built. So a fat fender car was my next choice. If I could afford it I would like to build a blown flaty on a sedan body That kind you see in old pictures out at the dry lakes. but like I said I'm retired and live on a budget. Rat rods don't much appeal to me nor do those million dollar high tech wonders. My wife and I enjoy the hell out diving the wheels off and visiting with our friends in different parts of the country. A cheeseburger and a coke on Saturday nights at the local Dog N Suds is a nice evening for us. I live in one of those suburban subdivisions were my neighbors think I've pretty much lost my marbles "driven a noisy car".
Go to the top of the page..and where it says The Alliance..click on there and there will be another bar to click on..have your credit card ready were not all bad..and once you have been here a while as long as your not a flaming ****hole..you will blend in.. even some of the ****holes even blend in nicely...see..look at me
I used to live in a big ol' house with a barn on a lake in an unincorporated village. I had lot of space and I was a mechanic before My father got sick and jI took over the business so I was pretty well equipped. Then the yuppies decided the country was a cool place to live and the taxes drove us outa there. so now I make do with a 2 car garage and my neighbors watching me struggle under and old car.
