That's for sure, I feel the same way, I asked Custom Cl***ic here in Island Lake what would a paint job run (about) 20 grand, the owner tells me. And here I was trying to quit smoking that week and I lit up and walked out.
I agree. Anyway, you try to get it done by someone else, just the fact that it's an old car, they're gonna hike up the price ten times more. Get some satisfaction and pride out of having it, and not just by driving it
Hey 'ol Rodder... When new guys come here and ask for stuff before they give any other input, sometimes the reception can be a little harsh... No one knows you yet, and you came in asking for stuff. This site is unlike any other I've ever hung out at, and everyone here gives a lot and asks little. That's why it works as well as it does, I think. When someone you've seen help out a lot of others needs help, everyone wants to help them out. But when a relative stranger comes in and asks for help, the reception might be a little chilly. So, don't sweat the harsh welcome...it's nothing personal. But, if you hang out and help out some others for a while, I promise you a more gracious response the next time you need something from here. It's what I've seen in the years I've been here, and there's a great group of generous and knowledgable givers on the HAMB. Most give much more than they ever ask for, and I'm sure you'll fit right in here after a while. ~Scotch~
I'm 60, My friend Bill got his 40 Ford , frenched headlights, body molding off, hood seam filled, painted including dash and trim for 5000.00 by a rod builder in Elgin Illinois. So I took my car him, I said I don't need any body work just paint ,dash and trim. about 16 G he says. I mentioned Bills car and he says "Oh wow man, I took a bath on that car. It was a mistake" Boloney! These guys have a bad at***ude, Like get another Hobby if you can't afford this one. My brother painted his Dart in his garage. I include a picture. It cam real nice. Viper Red. He work his **** off. I can't even count the number of cuts he made after he squirted it. We're tossin around the idea of taking it apart and doing it.
I hit the front fender about a week after I got car.On my own toolbox!! The Avatar I'm using shows it. We fixed that. But Custom Cl***ics had to blend in the flames to match. It was over 800.00 to get "em fixed by them anyway. Their Gonifs.
I have other cars besides the Chevy and the Aurora, I listed the Aurora because it's an Autobaund edtion. No limiters and a taller differential. But I aslo have a Volo convertible my wife loves. Drives like a crazy person with that tubo. She hit a curb and busted the lower potion of the grill shell. Volo wanted my first born to fix it. My brother and I fixed with some left over Bondo I sand the hell out it and he shot it. Came like brand new.
Thanks Scotch, I was looking for a lead on a SCTA jacket. SCTA is sold out and I googled the jacket and found a URL that lead me HAMB I didn't know there was such a board. Thanks again.
I really like House of Kolors rasberry. Wonder how much a gallon they get. I should look that up. A friend here in town got his old vette ready for paint and is lookin for a color
Well were gettin a few inches of rain here, Part of Ike they say, My backyard is underwater and I had two cruses to attend today. One sponsored by my buddy the upholsterer. Everything is called off. It's absolutely miserable here.
Man I'm not one to tell someone how to do a car but I think your car would be over the top if it was a flat color. Throw some steelies on it , baby moons, maybe even some 57 Caddy caps. The look is simple. I bet it would get a lot more attebtion than it does now and it wouldnt cost as much as a slick paint job. Heck do some old school flames or stripes. Dang I think i'm gettin a semi just thinkin about it. Like I said before its you ride. Do it your way.
Isn't that imaginative? What was that guy thinking? Whoever built the car put the battery under the right front fender. So Far so good. but wait,,it takes a direct hit behind that tire, water ain't so bad but what about stones? So he cut down his porch mat and bolted it in. OK let give him E for effort. But wait,,,doesn't that thing get caught in the tire? Yes it does. Took me a few tries but eventually I customize a boat box and got it to fit. Now it's a pain it **** when you want to disconnect ( do a little MIG job on it, say) So I fir with one those magnetic switches from Watson Streetwork serves as a good door lock too.
I think your absolutely right skwurl, Must of been something in it day, but it's like sooo outa fashion now. I saw a 39 in suede and chrome, steelies baby moons red interior real sharpe car.
