Doc, I'm sorry. And to be honest, I probably know less about the history and culture of this place than you know about brain surgery. So, I'm sorry if I have offended you and anyone else on the board. All I said was one word (rat rod) and it's obvious I did not know such a word could be so offensive. Again, one's respect for culture and history can only be acquired through a learning process. You went through it and so have many others on the board. But banishing me from the site is in no way going to help me understand that same culture. I'm already learning and that's a good thing. So, please, don't hesitate to call BS if I say something stupid. That's how we learn. I've been on too many forums where people give erroneous information and teach it like gospel. I can already see this is not such a place, that's good. I'm willing to learn so please bere with me and other new members. Once again, sorry to those for coming across as insulting. I meant no harm.

Well, I have to give you props for realising there is a lot to learn. I lurked here for 12 months before I was game to post, the HAMB wasn't as nice a place then! Your taking steps in the right direction at least.

these cars are reliable. I drove mine 600 mile 2 weekends ago. About 300 the folling weekend. It really depends on the builder. Theyre really easy to work on. As for parts, if you cant find it here you dont need it.

    Not early over here.

Funny thing about the "R" word. I think it's only on the HAMB that anyone really gives a shit about it.

I don't like what WE know as R** R**s any more than most of you and I would not like my car to be called one. But I also accept that in the real world (away from here) it's a commonly used term and you can't blame a guy for innocently using it.

If, after you explain the difference, he still doesn't get it, then it's time he switched forums.

Welcome Mike. Glad you saw the light....I can't even spell McGuires.

FWIW... As stated earlier, the RR term is usually assigned to very gimmickly cars, with poor engineering. Traditional rods can be across the board on cost, but are defined by having a period correct aspect to them for the most part (tire/wheels, engine, paint, etc. are all coordinated for a certian time frame of style).

Traditional cars can be very reliable, but it depends on how 'traditionally strict' you are with your car. Consider points vs. HEI, multi carbs vs. a 4bbl, drums vs. disks. Period correct items usually require more attention and maintenance then modern technology. Many folks build somewhat traditional looking cars by trying to mask modern things which look more period correct but are actually quite modern and efficient/safer. But to those of us who are really into traditional cars, opinions vary on these items.

I would suggest doing some more research to see where you would be comfortable on this front. This board and the book "How to build a traditional Ford Hot Rod" from Bishop will give a better perspective on traditional cars, and looking at vendor sites like Speedway, SoCal, etc. will give you an idea of some more modernized parts available for cars. You may want your car somewhere in between is my guess.

    Good luck!

But you like Nailheads so I look past it...

I have a whole lot of friends that aren't HAMB people and they stay away from it as well. It seems to show a certain level of ignorance to them as to what a car really is.

Mike...only problem I can see (besides being underslung) is the amount of wood in that body...go over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure there's not a lot of rot hiding from you. Metal work is fine, wood work sucks!

Mmmmmmmm Nailheads, I just got my heads built at Gessler Heads (http://www.gesslerheadporting.com/), level 4. A little spendy but with 6x2s I wanted it to breath well. Was going to be injected but the deal fell through, bugger. Cant afford a huffer but that will come in time.
Sorry, you said the magic word, couldn't help myself.......

Mike, you screwed up! Never apologize to a crusty old shit like Doc. Now he got what he wanted all along...your respect.

Hot Rod/R** R**, adjustable wrench/Cresent Wrench, tissue/Kleenex...I thing R** R** has gotten to be a generic term. Doesn't make it right, but that is reality.

You can do it on your first post if you felt the need, is it wrong? Depends on how delicate you are. I believe we have a much more relaxed view about swearing!

Its not the swearing as much as it is just disrespect. The guy made an honest mistake. Although there is some good I see in it. NO.1 he wont say that again. No. 2 Being a jerk to the new guys will quickly eliminate any whiners right off the bat and will cut down on a lot of general bs. So I say carry my good man thats a noble work youre doing. You break em down n we'll rebuild em.

Cool little "hot-rod". You are on the right track, study this forum a little more and it will be of value to keep from getting blasted when posting. Nothing like a car you can drive and enjoy without worrying about every little nick or scratch. Good time to be away from the coast in hot and dry Arizona. Good Luck Dude-Sololobo

I think Webster spells it "grammar". If you're going to complain about it maybe you should spell check yours. ;)
We all make mistakes and some of the "kids" you're referring to, have some really good info between the "english class" errors. You have to overlook a little of that IMHO.

Quite entertaining thread, this one. Watching all the new kids joining up to call the older ones that've been here a while fat mean stinkypoo heads. When did this place become a kindergarten?

Seriously, many of you new guys are rediculous. I joined in 2001. If you think Doc's chewing was bad you have no idea how it was back then. You got off easy. If people like mud and Germ were still here, I imagine you'd have gone crying to your mommy a long time ago.

It's been quite fun watching many of you spout off how badass you are, expecting those of us already here to believe it simply because you typed it on a forum. If you'd STOP your posturing and think for a minute, I'm pretty sure many of the established HAMBers might actually know a thing or 2 bout this thing known as traditional rodding. Pissing us off isn't the smartest thing you can do. I've seen it on here before. The one person that could answer your question about that certain problem you're having with your new build won't reply because you were a blithering moron when you joined. All that potential knowledge lost to you because you spent time trying to build "street cred" when all you did was remove all doubt of stupidity.

NEWS FLASH!!! The HAMB ain't PC, nor do we tolerate stupidity. When you get flamed, suck it up and deal with it. Some of you need to grow a pair instead of spouting off inane and asinine comments, bunch of damn whiny prepubescent "you hurt my feelings!" asshats......

Flame me if you want, but first, remind me to give a shit about you and your opinions, OK?

Well said Fraz, The HAMB has sure gotten warm a cuddley, and wayyyy off topic on a lot of posts.

Is it tech week yet, will it even matter, will the O/T posts ever end, will FNG's ever use the search feature like I do, will I ever make it to the Jalopy Showdown???????

If someone did lurk long enough, they should know and understand what they are saying before typing it.

And to those of you who can't take a fuck you,,,, fuck you......

I love forum fights. They're almost as good as fights over "social networking" sites.

Another noob's 2 cents, though.... When I started actually taking an interest in cars, I honestly didn't get the terminology either. I thought the terms Street Rod, Hot Rod, Rat Rod, and Kustom were interchangeable. Fortunately it's easy to learn when there are so many magazines and forums out there that focus on specific types of old cars.

Oh, and as far as I can tell, the biggest difference between rats and hot rods is image. Rat rod guys like their cars to look ugly, rusty, and falling apart. Hot rod guys like their cars too look at least safe enough to sit in. ;)
