I like it, here's a picture from the current issue. They took a nice picture of the HAMB's own Kirk Hanning built 34 pickup at Billetproof Detroit. In the background there's a few of the other club member's rides. My sedan just snuck into the shot on the left.
Gotta agree with this. WTF is a "Fenderwall"? We build fender well headers, they pretty much go through the inner fender, if it's still present, and then out the fender well. In my 52 years I have NEVER heard of a Fender Wall. Hopefully that was a poor attempt at humor by the ED. Really do enjoy the book though, just picked up the new issue today - only thing worth buying at Walmart
I just saw this today. I am standing there too next to my old shoebox, with my back to the camera. I remember talking to you guys on your way out of there.
I buy the Hot Rod Deluxe when ever I see it. I woudl like to see them add some features on cars that exist now and still carrythe quility done, and driven, tradionally styled cars. Two features a month would be awesome in addition to all the stuff they have already. There's tons of quality cars that could be featured. If they did 2 a month you'd only need 12 feature cars and you can get that at one car show in some places. With all the shows nation wide..... there's no shortage of material.
I buy it, I'd get a subscription. One of the best monthly mags I've read and I've read them all, good and bad. The historical pictures are to die for, the writing is good with out being to Kool or arrogant. I also like that you have a few pin ups in the mag, without going over board. Some mags like to think women and cars don't belong together, others turn the mag into a cross between victoria's secret and rocky horror picture show....
Hmmmm.... do you even read the magazine? September had Bobby Green's Nailhead powered roadster and that T coupe. I'd say they're already there...
Its a good magazine but this last issue was kinda thin, I think I spent more time looking at the picture of the LA roadsters rally than I did the whole rest of the magazine. Ive pretty much decided its just the Rodders Journal from now on out.
It is one of the best mags out. There is so much advertising in everything else. HRD has more tech and pictures of the good old stuff.
He knows what he talks about- and magazines without ads (especially big corporation ones) are like dairy cows that don't produce milk- short term!
That's why it's $6.99 on the stands, that makes up for a lot. There will be more ads once it's a proven seller.
Yeah yeah...magazines are all going to go the way of the Nailhead, and "this one" (fill in the blank with whatever magazine is taking its turn in the barrel for the Monthly Magazine Drama post) is leading the way. -Brad
What's the bet? What's the time limit? A year? Two years? Five years? I left YearOne to go freelance full time. What do you got for a bet that can top my mortgage? -Brad
I've got the first 2 issues, bought issue one at the Frankfurt Germany airport of all places. Great read for those just getting into rodding, love the historical angle.
Did you notice the topless chick in the upper left getting a tan? Of corse.... she is laying on her stomach. I think Ryan knows a little sump-n sump-n.
You think it'll be gone in a couple months. I think I'll be at the HAMB Drags next year wearin' a Deluxe Staff shirt, scoping for features. Thickest steak in Joplin says I'll win the bet. -Brad
if Ryan is on to something then I'm glad I have every issue so far....but then again I hope he's wrong 'couse it's a very good mag along with TRK,TRJ( wich I have subscriptions to both......time will tell
I really like the mag, if they would have continued with it back when they did the first couple of issues, Rod and Culture, CK Deluxe, and many of the other new mags wouldn't even exist. The powers that be made a poor decision in the first place. Instead of one mag that could have been the king of the traditional movement you have a half dozen or so that are now competing for content. I hope it continues on because even if they just dug stuff out of their archives it would kick ass.
You guys are overlooking the whole premise of HRD and why it's out there. The Petersen archives are loaded with material that was paid for years ago. There's no expense account for the editors or staff photographers and one person can put the whole thing together in a cubby hole with a scanner and computer. JimA, you worked there long enough to know that the one shot department, using reprints, was a license to print money. Also, remember that the new owner has one of the largest publication distribution companies in the country, so that putting it into Wal-Mart or Barnes & Nobel is a piece of cake.
No, not if you don't have the right ad sales people that understand the magazine- and how to sell the correct ads for it. First time around it was a "Lifestyle" magazine and had no ads- what products does it help sell now? I like most of the content- great photography, but I think in the end the numbers (sales and ads-lack of both) will kill it. I'd believe Ryan on this one 100-percent.
