There wasn't on in 2008. Goodguys tried events in Florida for about 10 years, but with little or no success. Not to say that there won't be another in the future though.

    Dates-shmates....

KIRK, the Scottsdale gig (home of the dustbowl car show) is AWESOME, don't get me wrong, the attendance seems bigger and bigger every year. So, what I'm going to ask for consideration will probably be dust in the wind, BUT! The show NEEEEEDS to be at the Arizona State fairgrounds. Much like the Puyallup deal. A MUCH more interesting venue, with HUGE space and HUGE parking. Buildings, old trees, walkways, large open areas, under the grandstand vendors area, hell, even a roundy round track, barns, stables, concessions row, and a SKYRIDE to take it all in. The state fairgrounds is also smack dab betwixt almost all of the HOT ROD shops in town! The season finale show would go from awesome to, (wait for it......) FRIGGIN' AWESOME!!!!!! (over use of the exclamation point very intentional)
If it were put up to a vote, I bet it would be the fairgrounds, the hallowed fairgrounds where Wallace and Ladmo held stage shows.....the Purple Palace....ahhhh yes.

Here's hoping the black Scottsdale city council helicopters don't start flying around my house with the blacked out SUVs in tow. Friends and family, if I come up missing, look to the east!

Now back to the regularly scheduled thread......

I have passed that suggestion on to them before and there was some logic as to why it's at WestWorld instead. I know they'd like to move it because WestWorld cost a FORTUNE to rent. I'll ask again.

That was a tough call. Those who went were hardcore and really dug it, but it just wasn't successful enough to even break even.

On pulling the plug on Atlanta:

That might have been due to it and Nashville being only two weeks apart.
They both draw from a lot of the same areas.

It also could've been the time of year. We went to the first one and had a great time but it was brutally hot. Might it have done better earlier in the spring?

Was there any truth to changing the Indy date or was that a reckless rumor, seems like attendence would grow, if they got away from the June rain out every year... Just curious, thanks.

Goodguys would like to change the date. The problem is getting it onto the track's and Goodguys schedule at another time.

It's been a topic of discussion at the office each of the five seasons I've been here, but it's hard to move.

I'd be willing to bet that Goodguys will go back at some point, but it would have to be on a smaller scale. The race track was just too expensive and huge for the show.

    Autocross in Des Moines? Wild!

That means Highboy32 will show up for sure.

Where on the fairgrounds will it be held? Maybe in the cattle show ring? :)

Funny (or sad) thing is that I've seen it rain at every one of them at least once.

I kinda know what you're looking for and what you are trying to avoid and in my opinion if you were trying to hit one in the spring/early summer it would be the Indy event. Yes, it does rain there sometimes BUT I have also been there when the weekend has just be spectacular temp wise and low humidity. With today's forecast you can look on the internet the morning you are suppose to leave and if the forecast looks shitty then just cancel. The events in July & Aug, in the places they are scheduled, for you would normally be too hot and humid.

If you are looking for ones in the fall you can't go wrong with KC, Norwalk, Joliet and Bowling Green. Lots of asphalt to roll around on. Bowling Green would probably be at the top of my list for you because there is a nice asphalt path that meanders thru where the cars park, with Joliet being at the bottom just because there's ALOT of gravel where the cars park.

    Hope this helps.
