Here here Zombie! Oz is a bloody legend. It's like Brizio in Rodders Journal. Lots of Roy's cars feature but we would hate to miss out on seeing one I'm sure because he'd reached his quota. Just received issue 15 down here in the Sth Pacific. Awesome stuff as expected. The Aladdin is killer.
Hey... if somebody like, say... SamF. cranked out Oz-quality cars he could be a R&K rockstar too... that's why Oz is never online. He's a workin' mofo...
not to highjack this thread, but to answer your question, oz is one of the premier custom builders in the country. here are the cars in question.
We were in an elevator one time and these two 19-20 year old chicks get in with us, that were not with us, and one had some nice cleavage and he looks right at her shirt and says ya know... you sure have pretty teeth. And she smiled and he said ya see... pretty teeth. I'da been slapped across the face..... I think he ended up getting a hug. it must be the beard thing, he's like Sampson...
The picture didnt post :-(. email me if ya wanna see it. Here is the sucker with Greg Sharp next to the ex-McGee car then owned by Scritch. photo credit Wayne Salvatti. C.1971 This photo I supplied to Bruce Meyer in the restoration of the McGee car. He supplied to Ken Gross and the photo appears in the Hot Rods Milestones book of his author. Amazing that the Camaro was right in line next to McGee @ Bonneville and is forever caught on film. The Camaro mentioned above was definitely given to Bill. My buddy Oz who is Bill’s bro in law bought it in 69. The car was a 427, 4speed 12 bolt car with a unique Nickey Chevy Glass Hood and contained a RS package.. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> They might have told Chevy that they bought a 6 cyl car, But that wasn’t the case. The turned laps and when Oz was done Another racer bought the car. Don’t know where it @ now. It Would be worth a lot of money………
..Zombie,i must admit...,,at the time i posted that,,i had just picked up the latest issuse....i hadnt even read any of the articles ,,i just looked at the pics,,,i was flipping thorugh the mag and saw Oz a few times,,,and made that statement,in part to the way that OL STOOL RODZ is always revering Bo Huff.... ..i eat Crow,,,,,tonight i finally had a chance to sit down and read the articles along with the pics,,,,fer starters,,,every single OZ article was reveling to me,,,,the awesome shit they are doing simply floors me...and makes me just do a double take at my shitpiles and womder what scrap prices are paying now... ,,but secondly..i will admit,,,it has been a lil while since i have bought a TRK mag,(mostly because of cash flow).,and after sitting down tonight and reading all the storys on the 39 ford convert, the Ed Bliss rail story, the silver dollar ,mike smiths A coupe, the outlaw,,not to mention all the show coverage... i have to say ,,first off,,,EXCELLENT JOB on tha mag, and I WILL make it a point to subscribe and honestly,,,it takes me right back to those HRD,original CKD days!!!!!
Yes... the golden era of "rat rodding"! I love it when you "ol timers" share stories about the EARLY DAYZ!
LOL... and I love it when you "ol timer" share YOUR stories of the "dark ages" of the monochromatic-square billet-high tech late 80s and early 90s with your red wheels, rickety I-beam axles and flat black primer... come to think of it... this is all YOUR fault. You are like the grandpappy of rat rawdding. Curse you and your ancient wayward ways... Tell us another story grammpappy... puh-leeeeeeeze!
Back in 1990 we didn't have internet, cell phones or digital photos. When you wanted to buy parts outside of your area you had to sometimes write a letter (not everyone gave out their phone#), wait for printed pics, send a check, let it clear & then wait for a box to come with the parts (sometimes weeks into the process). Now you can get on the HAMB see a pic, paypal it and have the parts in 2 days- it's AMAZING times we live in. Does that go back far enough to when some of you were still watching "Thunder Cats", "GI Joe" and "Bananas in Pajamas"? It would be YEARS before the delicious combination of the words "RAT" & "ROD" would become the "peanut butter in my chocolate" of my youth. (read the humor- I'm making fun of MYSELF and that I'm so damn old! )
Awesome! In my day... there was no eBay or Craigslist.... you had to read tiny classified ads and call old codgers and try and pry the stuff from their hands with actual cash... there was less rust back then, too.... and that dark haired chick from Family Ties was hot...
mmmmm..... Mallory... saw her at the Pomona swap meet once, she had gone Veggie/Hippie and it just wasn't the same...
So Damn Old? Shit now I feel really old! Thanks alot Jim By the way John Buck and Kevin (Poopy Pants) were over tonight and I forgot to push them on the Labor day cruise idea And forget Mallory - It's all about Valerie Bertinelli on One Day at a Time!
Stacy Sheridan on T J Hooker - that's right, Heather Locklear. Mmmmmm Oh yeah, we were talking about Hot Rod Deluxe. Man I think the current issue hit it out of the park. Ryan, I hope you are wrong because I think this is really coming into it's own. Maybe the re release of this title came late but it's the ONLY one of this genre I read - NO OSR, CKD etc.
I just adopted Aaron Lasky, he lives in my basement. That is so cool! Not so much the part about Lasky, but a 'basement' in Florida... I just got the new issue of HRD and thought it was great.
A little OT but looking for a copy of the May 2008 issue of HRD that has the 390 Cad eng rebuild. Have not been able to find website that sells back issues that have HRD. Went to www.primemediabackissues.com or what ever the web site is but it does not list it either. I have bought a couple of the latest issues of HRD, like it, hope its able to make it, I think its great. Anyway, would like to purchase one and I know this isnt the classifieds section but get more readers here. Thanx, Dave
I think it has evolved into a pretty good magazine. Levels of fake nostalgia and tattoo fetishism are low, content has a lot of good stuff. Good enough that I'm beginning to worry about whether I have all the issues or not...does anyone have a list of issues published?? No numbers or useful date marks...can't figger it out. I wonder if the marketing types at whateverthehell Petersen is now realize where some of their real possibilties lie...think of what they could do, with no editorial expense, if they just offered retro subscriptions...just churn out copies of back issues, perhaps offer expensive complete subscriptions to the past...let people order an HRM subscription beginning with a copy of January '48, for instance. Staple on a wad of modern advertising if they want even more money...
I thinks thats a great idea, pick a year you want to start and insted of October 08, you get a reissue of October 51. Id do that. I was too slow with the response, Bruce ha ha
