I was thinking yesterday about all the cool stuff I know of "hidden" near my house:

NEAR MINT original black '40 Ford coupe. Know the entire history of the car.

Very nice '54 Belair HT, all original

Nice, complete SOLID pair of model A's (5w coupe and 2dr sedan)

'40 For pickup decent, but not super nice...

And, any other Utah HAMBers may know about this one, but I know an old man that has about 10-12 huge chicken coupes filled with oldies, and cars are packed in between each chicken coupe as well. Nothing REALLY special, but some cool cars. A few very rare cars.

Anyway, whatcha got in your neck of the woods?

  2. there is a 30-31 model a coupe in a neigbors yard around the corner and a model a sedan buried in an old timers garage in my neigborhood

If you or I know about them, they aren't hidden.

  6. This "fence post" is about 40 miles away on a cattle ranch. The owner seemed to think $200 and me cleaning up my mess would be fair, but that was over a year ago. I doubt its gone anywhere. I know I really should go and get it but I don't have the time/space to store it, with the cost of shipping I don't want to get stuck with it.

I noticed a 57 Chevy of some sort in a garage. It was resting on flattened tires and covered in junk. Only the bumper, grille and those rubber bullets were poking out into the light of day.

  11. Mint glossy black 62 Chevy bubbletop. 4 speed and yeah it has the original 409. Gives me serious wood just thinking about it. About 10 miles from my house. Just crusing the back roads one day and saw a guy working in his driveway on a 61 Chevy beater. Stopped and visited a little and during the course of the conversation he sez, "hey, come look what I have in my shop...you might find it interesting". The guy use to use to be in the business building street rods and one of his happy, repeat customers made him a gift of the bubbletop. Rottweiler chained to a post near the door to the shop and I guess I know why.

  12. I live in a very rural area and there is a 39 Hudson cpe on this guys place..got to be a rare one,as you open up the trunk and there is a factory pickup bed that slides out for use.
Probably could be bought but not my cup of tea!

  13. These I gott em buried throughout the yard !!! >>>>.

There is a family whose father was a Model A wizard. At the old farmstead in the barn is:

    Complete Cars:
    28-29 Pickup (driver)
    30-31 Pickup (driver)
    28-29 Coupe
    28-29 Sport Coupe (driver)

    Bodies:
    28-29 Pickups
    30-31 Pickups
    Roadsters
more cowls than I can remember
    doors
    shells
    grills
    windows

    Engines:
    Early Flathead
    Bangers galore
    OHV heads
    manifolds

    Parts:
looks like a Model A Store (that organized)

    Shop Manuals:
    Like a library

I was just flabbergasted at it all. I walked around with his sons while they reminisced about their father. They don't want to part with any of it. It was their father's life work and legacy. They love and miss him horribly and every time they go to the barn they can almost feel him.

it's not so hidden but it's off limits. There's a closed down Sunoco right in the middle of town. Inside the service garage is a 53(or54) F100 that's been inside as long as I can remember. The owner passed and the mother and son won't let it go.

  21. I grew up in Salinas and in the early 70's and I had a friend who's father was a lettuce farmer just outside of town. The ole buzzard had 25-30 model A coupes, sedans and pickups all herded together near his house. I hounded him for years to sell one to me and he wouldn't budge. Most of the model A's were driven from Oklahoma during the depression. A real Grape of Wrath comes to Salinas kind of thing (ironic that John Stienbeck was from Salinas). Anyhow, I found out the 5/8" rounded head bolts (I seem to recall they were 5/8" anyway) on the 4 bangers were valuable to collectors so I talked him into letting me swap out the original bolts for common bolts for $20. I filled up a 5 gallon bucket with them. Cleaned up a collector swap meet and I recall I made about $400 bucks. When my buddy told his ole man, the ole bastard about had a stroke. Hell, he was richer then 9 foot up a bull's ass but I guess he was none too pleased about being out foxed by a teenager. If he would have just sold me one of his model A's to begin with and if he had a feather up his ass, we would have both been laughing. He never planned to do anything with the cars anyway and I heard later, that after he died, they all ended up in the crusher.

Well across the road from me i see a 1948-50 chevy truck (the one peice window) and what appears to be a mid 50's GM panel van and not sure but looks like a late 40's gm car, but i can only tell by the windshield. These are what is outside and behind a really big building. They are also on top of a hill, so there is no telling what might be down it. I hate to walk over there and look, because this is Kentucky and tresspassers might be shot on site! Also heard he had some old cars inside the building ( like a model t and a model A and maybe a chevy truck. The guy has died, but the wife lives there. The son lives across the road, that is who i need to talk to. But i work odd hours and he most too because i can never catch him. It is odd to see GM stuff, because I was told the old man was a big Ford person. With scrap metal prices in my area really low, I am hoping to get a deal with what is back there, just towing it home will be a pain. because the area has tall weeds and hills. I have a friend with a roll back but he is a pain in the ass to deal with at times.

Also about a mile away from me is a bunch of old cars in a fenced in yard and in the shop is some old cars that is in great shape. But i know the owner and he is wanting barrett jackson prices for the rusted up ones outside. He has some old fords, buicks, studes and late 60's caddillac hearses. He has a studebaker truck like mine (49-53). Has a BIG block caddy motor "rigged" in it, but has the original straight axle front end! The body is in very rough shape, he wants $6000 and that was 4 years ago! Recently every vechile outside, the radiators were stolen. And the wheels for some reason where stolen off the stude. So he may take less, like $3000. lol. I'd give him $400 that is my best offer.

There is some old treasures around here in western ky, but everyone seems to want Barret Jackson prices for them.

this post should prove that there's still plenty of good stuff out there, there's even a ton of stuff left in so-cal. the one closest to me that i know of is about 5 miles down the road, late 31 model a truck, 283? mated to a 39 trans, the truck itself is ok it's been sitting out behind a shed for probably 40 years, the really good thing is the wheels, halibrand small window mags all around. i think the backs are 15x10's but might be 8's, the fronts are 15x4. i've been trying to get it for the last ten years, the guy isn't to friendly and i don't really want to bug him and piss him off, his wife would have sold it to me cheap, she just wants it gone and knows he'll never do anything to it again, they are both pushing 80. i leave a note on their fence every few months with my number, i figure eventually i'll get the call to come get it.

In a garage, not too far from me, is a complete 1937 Lasalle ambulance that was the local steel mill's ambulance. The only piece I saw that was missing was 1 sergeant stripe chrome piece on the front fender. Less than a handful of people know where this car is at and when I tell other guys about the car the first thing they say is that they never knew about it.

Same guy has a 27 Dodge roadster that's an older restoration, a parts car 24 Buick touring, a complete 24 Buick touring all in the same garage.

When I first saw the ambulance I went and introduced myself to the guy and asked if he'd mind if I looked at it. While looking at it a guy pulls up and asks if he's going to sell it yet, the car's owner jokingly says that he already sold it to me. I've never seen someone get so irate so fast. This guy turned red, started yelling that he has been asking for years about the car and getting mad at the car owner. It was kind of funny at first seeing this guy loose control over a car until I realized that this clown would end up being the type of asshole that would end up with the car.

When the car 's owner told him he was joking the guy left. The owner told me that this guy shows up every so often asking about the ambulance. I got the impression that he didn't want to sell it to the guy so I told him that if he ever decides to sell it to please make sure anyone else but that guy gets it. I said that if I could I'd give him $1 more than whatever that guy offers for the ambulance just so that he can't get it. The owner just smiled, chuckled and said he liked the way I think. He said he's got over 100 cars at his place. I don't know where he lives though, but I'm still looking for his place.

I later talked to the car owner's daughter and she told me that this same guy pulled up one day, rang the doorbell and asked her if her old man had croaked yet so he could buy the ambulance. I was silent for a second then I told her that if she asked her dad about that guy he'd probably say that he doesn't want him to get the ambulance. I told her what I had told her dad about giving $1 more than whatever that guy offered and how her dad laughed. She said that sounds just like her dad to do something like that too. So every time I see her outside I stop and say Hello and ask her to tell her dad Hello for me.

Every time I drive by this garage I look over and wonder what else he has at his place.

Guy near me has an Allard, 32 coupe hot rod survivor and about 6 more plus the "Wall of Flathead Intakes". His aren't hidden, but what a stockpile in a suburban garage/walkout basement.
