Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Norrland, Sep 21, 2008.

  1. Hey,

Found these headlight bezels on the Swedish Moon equipment swapmeet in Avesta yesterday. Im planing to do some custom-mods on my 41 Ford Tudor and was wondering what u guys think about this? How does it look to U??

Definitely interesting. Would you plan on welding them to the body and frenching them in? For an early 60's show rod look, these are a great idea, and work very well with the horizontal seam in the fenders.

  3. Have not got that far thinking yet. Will ofcourse let u know what i will do! :)

Its an interesting change on the '41 front end. I wonder if it'd be easier to graft the '40 buckets onto the front of these fenders?

    I love '41s... I got my first one when I was 12!

    Do it...looks interesting

  6. If your looking for a tear drop style, why not go way out and use '39 units, bucket and all.
If using these because the parking/directional is built in and it seems like an easy deal, well easy usually is a disappointment when design and style come into the equation.
You might also think about reshaping the grill openings to reflect the tear drop shape of the lights. Mock it up with some cardboard and post a photo.

I think it really looks interesting.
I think it makes the front end look a little more "squatty" without having the headlights mounted straight up-and-down to compliment the vertical lines of the front end.
It really draws your eyes to the grille opening.

Definitely a different and original idea.

Do it....it fits very nicely with the lower grills and fender. Different = good in this case.

I saw another car that did that and it looked pretty bad. The canted, duel headlights from a Mopar look much better. I think it's an early 60's Chrysler. I really think you'll get more bad comments than good ones with those. Different isn't always an improvement...

  11. Hmmm, How ya going to weld a pot metal ring to the steel fender? Doesn't the top of the ring lean further out than the seal beam will? How about a side shot to see how it flows across the front. I like different as long as it works, I'm not to sure about this one.

I know this sounds cheap and cheezy, but you can glue them on. Its really the only way. Panel bonding cement is what cars are often built with today, and it is actually stronger than a mig weld (no embrittlement!), in stress tests, the metal tears before the glue joint breaks.

Clean the metal really well, and after applying the glue (you need a special gun, its not cheap either), clamp the headlight ring in place, and wait 24 hours. The glue joint will be so strong the only way to ever remove that headlight ring will be to break down the glue with a torch.
