Royal & Rustler not all of us will be able to see it in person, So keep the photos coming for the Gasser/Willys fans over the pond,
The Car and your work look Stunning.

  10. Hey Royal: The car is looking really good . . . can't imagine having a steel Willys! Is the car going to be ran at the track at all once it is complete . . . or will it only be used for fun and no drags? I'd love to see the car run at the Gasser drags at Thompson - would be so cool to see it run.

I wanna take a moment and thank everyone who's posted comments and input on the Willys project. It's great to have Royalshifter posting our updates so everyone can enjoy the experience.
Along with Skip's fantastic fabrication work, I need to also thank the numerous other people helping to make this project happen in such a short amount of time. Troy Thompson and Yun Song did a tremendous job straightening out the 68 year old body. Neil Averill and the crew at Custom Concepts smoothed the original body so well that you have to see it with your own eyes to believe. Rob Marchese has been a tremendous help not only with rare parts, but knowledge and experience only a true Willys guy can possess.
It's been 6 months of long ass days, but it'll all be worth it to see Fred standing beside the car at the CHRR in a couple weeks.

  12. It has been very cool to see the old girl resurrected before our very eyes. Thanks for including us all.

  13. Found a small piece of a Goodyear "Blue-Streak" crayon ... and although it's over 40 years old, it still works! ... you guys are sure welcome to it ... PM sent

  14. Every time I see that big Hemi . . . and that Halibrand V8 . . . and those big slicks . . . I get a bad feeling in my stomach (just have to tell yah!).

I can't imagine that that rear will take much abuse before ugly things happen to the pinion . . . I can only hope my bad premonitions don't come true. I imagine that your engine will put out somewhere around 600 - 700 HP on gas - which is more than a V8 Halibrand can handle (at least for long). Are you running a spool in it . . . or a peg-leg?

I know what you are saying...again when Fred was running a small block Chevy in 65 they pulled it out and installed the 426 it still had at that time the Culver City V8 quick change. Fred made quite a few runs with that rearend, Fred found out what horsepower could do in Famosa. Green light came and he dumped the clutch and shot the Culver City gears right through the fence fifty feet away. So I guess what I am trying to say is that's the way the car was in the 1966 era and that is how it is being built. The Champ was installed after that. This car again is being built for it's history and to my knowledge will never race.

It's a mount that will retain itself and was made closely like the original.
