In my opinion, (another "old guy") seems as tho the "rat rods" group wants to kinda say "In your face" to all the other guys that have put so much time, money, effort into their car projects & crowning it with the best paint job each one can afford. Rat rods also remind me of my hi school years 1946-1950, when we finally saved up enough cash to buy your first car,(500.00 for a 1941 Chev.coupe), first thing you wanted to do was to de-chrome it, (remember?) Then of course, get the exhaust manifold split, with Porter steel shavings mufflers!! Only problem back then, if the cops saw 2 pipes coming out under the rear bumper, it was automatic ticket time!----Anyway, while driving with primer spots all over your car, it showed you were in the process of making headway to "wait & see when I'm done" attitude, & thats not saying to the "cool guys" driving their finished highly polished painted cars, "in your face". It just made you strive to get your car finished as quick as you could afford----Hummm,---.50 cents an hour at the gas station----No wonder I ran primer spots so long----Don

Hey Deuce Daddy..I can relate to that.
I have pictures of my dads 53 Plymouth with primered Jimmy Jones Skirts on it and all the chrome shaved (stainless too)..He said it was that way until he sold it years later..just didnt have the money to "finish it" but it still was bad ass.

i met solo909 when he was selling his car. if he was given a hard time on here, if u saw him in person MOST wouldnt give him a hard time, lol.

at the same time, u didnt just know how to paint right? so i bet u asked the DUMBEST questions at one time, just like i did when i was learning to paint.

What is funny is most of the replies to this are from guys who joined in '06 and up. This is most definitely the kindler and gentler HAMB. Some of you guys wouldn't have lasted an hour "back in the day". :D Hahaha!

Remember when Cole actually posted here?

Remember the Harvester of Bondo? Fecals the Clown? Germ? The Rocky 33? The abortion from Florida? Nads' gas pedal? The HAMB was underground then.

  6. NAD's gas pedal... classic HAMB.

Don't forget RYAN and MUD getting into some lover's spats too.

You're right. This place has become all warm and fuzzy and people are still crying like kids that sat in cat poop in their sandbox.

I like what NORTON had to say a few posts back, too.

my kid [now 30] was raised with hearing bout 'baknthdays' from both me and old time buddies. He says that when he talks with old guys about hot rods, after awhile they ask him 'how old are you'? As he can talk about model A,s, dueces , flatheads an stuff. but he,s still into offroading, and is very knowlegible in that. However he,s been talking about wanting to work on my Duece soo i think he may come back.

Im glad some of you can tell my whole life story by reading three little words, "FNG" and a "join date"...

I guess what im trying to say is, not all FNG's should be thrown under the bus. Some are old, some are young and some are really old. Some like rat rods and some like traditional rods...

Oh well, who cares... Im over it... now its your turn to get over it...

Fecals had that AWESOME Pacer! I actually saw the wagon version a couple weeks back. That whole swazi thing was a giant misunderstanding. The swastik is a good luck charm and is EVERYWHERE in India. It was cultural bigotry against Nads IMHO. Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Nads!

I dont have time for stupid people.
Stupid people come in all shapes and sizes.. new and old and I dont have time for pissy people as well.

My 2 cents on having a dump on a newbie is this...
One day the next generation is going to be wiping my ass in an old age home so I think I'll pay it forward with a little kindness now.

  16. two words about generation whatever the phuck and the internet that come to my mind... "instant gratification"

kill all the lawyers, bring back the high dives, start letting parents be parents again and spank the kids that have been told their entire lives that they're "winners" when the little bastards actually deserve it... I certainly did. :)

until I was in my late teens I thought my name was Jesus Christ... you know how dad would say... "Jesus Christ... what did you do to my tools!!!"

She's a nice looking girl, but her nuts are showing!

Anyway, this has been a great thread. Atypical of what normally happens, and probably why it is still going. I did get a laugh out of - I think it was mazooma's picture of his wife pulling him around the block. Sucks that picture disappeared. (if it wasn't mazooma's, then I apologize!)

There's been some great education on here. I do think that some of the 'stupidity' would be solved if there was a block that prevented some people from posting immediately after joining. This would force some to read the areas we have and go from there. Of course, there are those who wouldn't read anyway, but still. I know it is this way over on the Model AA Truck forum.

Either way, I'm with Doc. If it dies, blame us. Had I known about this place back when it first was around, I'da been here then. I'da loved it from the stories I've heard.

I was on for awhile back then, then left. I got tired of the flame wars that were like listening to ghetto chicks throwing down after middle school. I like it better now.

I just joined today, and I'd like to say that I'm 22 and was never around for the origin of hot rods and customs, but I feel the history stronger than any other culture out there. I am perfectly fine with the term "rat rod", in my eyes, it goes back to the original idea of hot rodding; run what you brung, and if you couldn't afford all of that shiny shit, you didn't need it anyways. And, if you really want to disrespect me as a new guy, oh well. That's your prerogative, but just know that it's my prerogative to know that you're an asshole. If you're so threatened by the younger generation, obviously you don't give a shit about keeping this culture and the morals it instills alive. You should welcome it, because we're the only youngsters that will pay attention to you, cherish your stories, invite your wisdom, and recognize your experience. Period.

Flavor Aid is even more Ghetto than Kool-Aid... Is this even possible? I think my brain just exploded in my head.
