  4. I saw this at Pebble Beach and it is CRAZY. Talk about over-carburation.

Some super cool stuff here. I really love the Schieffer and Cirello magnetos, and the Roto-Faz.

I would say that engine never came out of a 57 Vette. Some other Chevy owned it .

  8. I built my first hot rod, a 30 Model A coupe in 1958. The SBC was three years old and everyone wanted one. But I had to settle for a running $15 flathead out of a salvage yard.

Picture shows Fenton SBC headers as installed on Garry Bennett's 1932 five window coupe. Note the way the frame/motor mount has been modified for clearance.

The whole shebang for sure. $315 back in the early '60 for a cam kit is pretty high.I'm going to use new roller lifters because they are cheap. When I put it on the Dyno I'll record it on video like my last engine.
    Thanks.

265 suck unless they have a 1/4 stroke crank. haha
    I'm thinking .060 283

Well they may suck, but it's still a 55-56 cam for a 265.

Let me guess you used one back in the day. Its not going in a 265... The notch on the back journal doesnt matter.

Nope never used one of them. Probably to-day's grinds would work better on the street. What are your specs. Is that a gear drive ? Gear to gear or are there idler gears so the cam doesn't spin backwards ?

They are neat looking, back in the early 70s I think Edelbrock and Weiand made them. You could run a single 4BC or switch tops and have a cross ram with dual 4s.

here is a little info on it. I have one that has been in the family for years.

The Smokey Yunick-designed Smoke (or Smokey) Ram SY-1. This one is the most different from the others--it was designed from the beginning to use a single four-barrel carb. The SY-1 has been out of production for many years. It was cast and sold by Edelbrock. Smokey said this was a particularly good manifold for small-displacement, high RPM engines. This manifold was written about in the November 2002 issue of Car Craft. They found excellent midrange power, when installed on their test engine using a Holley 750 carb. The SY-1 added 23 ft/lbs of torque at 4,600 rpm, but subtracted 17 horsepower from the peak reading as compared to the Victor manifold it replaced. (They did not say how much carb tuning was done, and they didn't list the engine displacement.) The manufacture and sale of this manifold caused some hard feelings between Smokey and Edelbrock, according to Smokey's autobiography. I have heard--but not verified--that Edelbrock issued a "mixture distribution fix" for this manifold, with instructions on where to weld-in some tabs or dams on the plenum floor to even-out the fuel distribution. I have seen manifolds that claim to be reworked in this manner; but I don't have a copy of the actual instructions to verify the work was done right.

Yeah, looks like a type of gear drive....but not like a Pete Jackson, etc...There is a gear on the crank, which turns the big gear, the little gear in the middle turns the cam....it's a planetary kinda deal...turns cam at 1/4 speed, rather than 1/2?

The ad said for 265-283, with new applications to be released later. I wonder if any ever were made for other engines?

Little gear on crank and a pretty big gear on cam and the cam spins backwards. I know there have been other double lobe cams for other engines out their, but they are pretty much one offs. If I do happen to hurt my cam I know and ol boy that can grind me a replacement cam to the specs I want.

A friend of mine found a picture if my manifold here, taken at the Hot Rod A Rama in Tacoma 2007.

Does anyone know the history of the Nicson 2x2 Intake??

I saw one of those Creitz intakes at the swap meet in Springfield, MO. It was for a single four barrel but had the flat area just like the one pictured from front to back. It certainly looked different. I had never seen one before. If I were a rich man. The guy was asking $350 for it. I probably should have bought it anyway.
