    "detonator", I like your truck.............

  3. Ryan Blogged about that killer lil truck on the JJ.

  4. Thought I would bring this one back up after Figiter's thread about his hood latch. cool topic.

  5. As a small fwiw, I've forgotten to latch the 32's side opening one piece hood several times.

Due to the rake of the car, the louvers letting internal pressures out along with the change in air flow over the top of the hood (from low pressure to high which probably puts pressure onto the louvered area at highway speeds which translates to less airflow from hood top louvers) the unlatched hood has stayed closed.

If you're running a no louvers hood top - which my 31 will - you may have problems in this area, but maybe not.

Not completely sure how I'm going to latch the 31's hood, but it will be side opening like the 32.
Something that automatically latches like a small Bear Claw would do it.
I'm liking the small Bear Claw I put on the 31's trunk.

No more #$#$%& rumble seats for me.

  6. Good tip on the louvers. I will have a solid top I think with side louvers. Thanks

Trent, I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but I figured I'd throw it on here, anyways. It does at least have the '32 rails, stretched hood (and wheelbase, obviously). I don't recall the guys name right now, but he was with the Rolling Bones crew, going to B'ville this year. You've probably already seen pics of the car. It has a BBC in it. Very cool hand-built hood!... and lost of other neat details.

Nice to see this thread come back up. I was thinking of this 29 Tudor we have at Wild West, and wondered about measuring it up and see what options unfold (if any).

Mine's remaining stock, unchopped, but at 6'2" I can't help but consider major work like sectioning in 1.5" thru the doors or something. What Zach said makes sense too, about the eye trained to see certain things.

It'll be a stock firewalled car, 4 cyl and I doubt I'll pinch it

    Any thoughts on this?

  9. Malcom, thanks for that pic. That is one of the coolest tubs ever built. THe hood shot gives me some good reference even.

1950Chevysubdude, glad to see you posting after surgery! I think adding to the doors could be done and not noticable. There is a light blue Tudor that was in one of the first TRJ's that had th opposite done to the 1/4s and I could not tell untill I read it and compared!

I was just reading some about the Rolling Bones trip to Bonneville and saw the Tub owner's name... It's Russ Daly.

  11. OK, talking to Rocky last night about this project and he threw out a suggestion w/o even knowing it. His beef with Tudors and heavy chops is that teh Qtr windows get reeeeeal long looking. So, I found a spare 2" w/o having to lengthen the front frame rails ;)

    Thanks Rock:)

    This is a great topic!

Does anyone have more pictures or comments? Build pictures would kick ass.

  16. Only thing I can add right now is, the spacer to adapt the SBC three sheave crank pulley ended up 1/2" thick instead of the 1/4" I mentioned before.

Along those same lines, the radiator is a large two tube model that has 3" thick tanks top and bottom.
The core is about 2 1/2".

    Made for a nice fit.

Some of the gang at the Saturday morning donut run recommended the local builder highly and they . . . as well as the builder tell me the radiator will cool the BB Buick just fine.

The builder didn't want to make the brackets to fit the 32 grill shell, but gave me a ton of scraps to fabricate them, said to bring it back and they'd weld the brackets on.

Right now, I'm looking for the right size aluminum extrusion so I can rubber mount the radiator without welding required.

More on that later when I get it figured out.

In the meantime, a pic of the adapted SBC aluminum pulleys to the BB Buick in the 31.

    A head-on view of the 17" fan.

It covers enough of the radiator that I'm not going to build a shroud unless it becomes necessary.

    Here's a shot of the 15" fan.

This morning I finished and installed the new 1/8"+ .035 fan spacer in place of the 1/4"+ .020 or so spacer.
Not much room gained, but I had the room to go to the back and give the radiator a little more clearance.

Note that the big Walker 4-core in the 32 won't fit in this car.

Once the fan blades take a permanent set I may pull the spacer altogether.

This is the 15 year old Hayden 17" fan in the 32.

Easy to see the fan blades are flatter than they were when first installed.

Bumping this up. I have some questions. Are the contours of the 28/29 cowl and grill shells the same as the 30/31's?

I moved my radiator forward with the flathead to get clearance for the 42 to 53 fan assembly and I'm thinking of a hood top for the car, no sides I don't think.

Since the 30/31 hood is longer this might fit the bill for what I need and not require fabing up a hood top with the curves required.

    Thoughts, input, other ideas?

My 28 runs a stock cowl and grill shell.

    Thanks,
    Cliff Ramsdell
