The Lincoln Y in a '49 sounds like an awesome combo, sort of an early '50s musclecar thing going on.
I know there's a board for the MEL V8, I wonder if there's one for the Lincoln Y/truck Y too.

Probably no where near as difficult as installing one in a '49. The '54 was a Y-Block car with the front crossmember relocated to accomodate the "new" engine with the sump in the wrong place. "49s thru ''53s fought you when you tried to fit Y-block-not to say you couldn't win the fight but it was a fight. 'Tended to to make one understand why everybody dropped an S.B.C. in them.

Every SBC I've ever seen put in one they hacked the crossmember to death.

I have Fatman clips in both of my 49's so putting any engine in them is a breeze.

Yep, the 54 was stock, but I will attempt to put a Lincoln Y in a 53 Merc, which has the flathead with a center sump. It may be possible to find a Lincoln Y from a Furd truck that has a center sump or rear sump. Having the oil pump in the back left should make it easier to plumb the pickup tube. The steering arms are another matter. I might be able to rotate the pan 180 degrees to get the rear sump needed and maybe the bolt holes line up. We shall see.

I have both truck and car pans, I'll run out to the shop and take a look at them.

The car pan is a front sump and the truck is a rear sump, but it has a sump that's at least 3/4 the length of the pan, but you could easily cut it back farther If needed.

If you need photos or me to measure any part of it just ask.
