I have posted this pic before....Its my 68 Chevelle high school car 1987ish.....street driven mid engine, built on a dare and banned from the high school grounds after the first time I drove it to school..........very hairy ride...young and not so smart....but it worked......if you look at the top of the pic you can see the drivers side door quarter window.....trans bolted right to the rearend...steering moved back..........goodtimes, Littleman

Now this one is bad ass. I like this shot because it looks like he is maybe driving over to pick up his girlfriend to go to the movies for a date.

My all time favorite. I saw this car at a show in KC when I was knee-high to a torque wrench. Bob Tindle's Orange Crate.

The weight distribution is definitely a good thing to consider when a stock 331 '51 Chrysler engine almost weighs a 1000 lbs! I really got started thinking about it because I'm dead set on running a full hood on my coupe and there is no way around it with the exception of blisters.

Ahh, the Orange Crate. I was just re-reading The Rodder's Journal article on this car. The way that the Frame bolts together so it could be Chromed is just amazing. This may be the baddest Show Car Ever!

If I had an unlimited budget, this would be one car I'd clone for the street (tamed down a bit, though). Since I can't afford to put a down payment on a bag of Fritos right now, I'll have to let someone else do that instead. Any takers?

One thing no ones mentioned is,
Is the car being built to run in any class? There are rules to engine set back so if you want the car to be accurate to a certain class it would pay to find a rule book to the class/era and build to that.
In my A40 I want to run it in an Aussy nostalgia class, Vintage Gas, calls for a maximum set back of 18% (I think, need to look it up in the rules to be sure)
Then again if you just want to set back the motor for looks, go for it!!
    Cheers,
    Doc.

  16. I don't know if anybody remembers this car from the early 70's in either Hot Rod or Car Craft. Absolutely my favorite 57 ever. The setbact is too extreme for my tastes but it nailed the street gasser look to a t. It was painted gold and if I remember correctly the gas tank was under the hood. What a flashback.

I'm not sure how much it's set back,I'll know better when the engine is in for mock up.
