  2. Great to see the Burkland's achieve their dream. I'm sure Al Teague will be the first to congratulate them on their new record.
Looks like the 200mph Club will have to now create a 400mhp chapter to go along with the 300mph gang.

  4. GREAT for the Burklands!

But, FIF (**** the french), they had already run that car faster than the FIA "record". I think somebody needs to start a true Governing body in several sports the French have screwed up..........tennis, cycling, auto racing.....

Amen to that, Tman. I think we need a National FIF Day. I'm sure there would be more than a few people ready to join...

Met the Burklands at Bonneville this year and they were the most informative and gracious couple. Took time out of their day to answer all my questions and than some.
Congratulations to them, they deserve it.

They were running at a "private" event for FIA records. They have run faster than the FIA records but without FIA officals there to certify that its being done according to the rules its not a record. We all know they've run faster but now the speeds they ran are official and beyond question. Remember when Karamesines ran 204 at Alton in 1960 and everyone howled "Fast Lights!!". No one can say that about the Burklands. Congrats on the record!

This has been a great year for LSR Records. Glad to see the Burklands finally get the Record, but that car has a lot more speed in it.

I was there Monday and Tuesday but had to leave due to a prior commitment. It was a great meet. Sometimes it was 3 or more hours between runs. So what? When someone ran, they meant it. Everyone did a fantastic job. Now I have to wait 2 weeks for World Finals. Eek. Wayno

To me SCTA records are without question. The FIA can pretend they are the ultimate authority in LSR but SCTA is it's heart and soul and therefore all I care about.

I understand that if you want to be undisputed you have to "Unite the belts" though. Congratulations to the Burklands. Amazing and well deserved!

Incredible engineering on this car too, I crawled around it last year. See in that picture where the rear body panels look like they're separated from the car? Well they do...after the run they pivot out and act like huge air brakes.

(This is what happens when an aeronautical engineer builds a race car).

I wondered that too Trent.....how did the French get so heavily involved in land speed racing....strange...

Yeah the front wheels were up. The main chute failed to deploy on that run and he had to use the brakes, On the landracingboard there is a link to some pics of that run and the car started wheel skipping when he was on the brakes. there is one pic of the salt with black skip marks on it. Tom was within a 1/4 mi of the freeway when he got the car stopped. The engines also failed to shut down and he had to shoot a co2 fire ext into the intake to kill them

Here is a link to Ray the Rat's pics of that run

PS: this car DOES have more in it, but traction is such a problem. Rumor has it they don't run over 3/4 throttle. (AWD, coupled HEMIs)

I agree with you 100%. As I have two SCTA records I can't argue with your statement. I've said before fast is fast and the SCTA clocks are beyond question.

Congrat's to the Burklands, a record along time coming and well deserved. You have shown once again that good old American ingenuity is still the winner and always will be. Jets without wings be damned! Nothin but nothin can raise the hair on the back of your neck like the sight and sound good old American V8's singing at 400+mph. Again congrats from team 219, Geisler, Vail and Banks.......

    HAHAHAHA.....me too Doc!!

It's humbling to get a close look at this car...amazing engineering and craftsmanship, it's beautiful underneath that skin, and it was built with a limited budget in a garage by an average family that all have day jobs.

  30. True, very cool story.

    You coming this way soon?
