Just a couple of pics from Saturday, JT and Gimmi came out to help block sand, I have no fingerprints left. Here's Smokey and Gomez wandering around.
Very simple indeed, just plain lime green on the body with very fine lime green abalone like flake dusted over, the roof's in metalflake silver with shifty flake dusted over. Should be painted next week if I can get her into the paint booth. I shoulda removed the hubcaps before priming but I'm lazy as heck. Wish me luck, photos soon. Hey Metalshapes how do you lower a Macpherson strut car?
Real bodymen don't have fingerprints, haha! Easier to rob banks cuz it sure as hell doesnt pay the bills. Sounds like a cool scheme. Where ya gettin the lime green flake from?
It's Old School Flake, GF-04, it's ultra tiny .008, it appears white but in light it's lime green fer sure, it's only gonna be a dusting. I might have Anthony White stripe her, but just super minimal on the hood and trunk only. I have some slot wheels I'm thinking of painting body color and adding some super rare 4 lug spiders, I also a set of really odd trim rings that have whitewalls on them. or I might just add these 4 spoke Cragars with US Royal thin whitewalls. I've done no body mods on this thing, just welded a few seams and shaved the bumpers. All the trim's getting replated as we speak. I hope she comes out cool, I'd like to have her at The Turkey Rod Run at thanksgiving.
if you were REALLY cool,,,you'd convert it to a four door,,,, those are HOT,,,dontcha know??? seriously,,it sounds like a pretty cool plan,,,,wish i was closer,,id give you a hand with it for sure....lookin forward to seeing in paint
Just cut a coil... ( or start at 1/2 to be safe...) Should be plenty of preload on those, so they should stay seated even at full droop. Rent a macPherson spring compressor, or have a Shop that owns one take the Spring out. You'll run out of Suspension movement before the Spring is at total released length, if you try to do it under the Car. Edit. If I remember right, the lower Balljoint unbolts from the bottom of the Strut, so you dont have to bust that loose. Not sure about the Steering arm. On some EnFo's they do, some dont. And the top just bolts to the underside of the Inner Fender. Not much work to take them completely out of the Car. Be carefull, though... Lots of preload on the spring. Dont try to release it without a Compressor...
I always thought these things had a cool roofline on them, looks very much like a designer's sketch that made it to production without getting changed. I'd like to see it when it's finished. Glad I'm not the only guy here who likes old European cars.
They're rare, even in Britain, but this one was sold new right here in Orlando, it's a very girly car, but I love it, the Rambler Marlin has a similar roofline, these predate them, this one's a 1963, they came out in 1961, total flop, English Ford's Edsel. Anthony White is strange but then again all true artists are.
Cool Capri I can't wait to see it painted . I always loved Consul Capris from when I was a kid in England, I got mine about 4 yrs ago , paint is Roth red flake roof with white body I put 14" wheels up front & 15's on the rear I couldn't get on with the 13" wheels, gave me better gearing too.I also wired the taillights to have 4 rear lights then 1 pr turn the other pair brakes. I had to sell mine as the kids were too big for the back seat (or lack of it ).It's in New York State now. Keep the photos coming.
I should have kept mine... I put a 1600 Kent out of a 1st year pinto in it, and drove it for a while. ( with a aftermarket intake & some other stuff ) Then I sold it to a buddy who put the original engine back in...
That pic of the Starliner next to the Capri needs a pic of a late 70s Corvette next to an Opal GT for contrast. Neat little car, Nads. Musicians sure are weird...
You can grind the spring cups off & reweld em on again lower down...remember to drain em of oil 1st tho!
Yep, that will work too. Check for clearence to the inside of the Tire. Or switch to Coilover Springs...
I spent many years back home working in a Rally Spares place....so know all about struts & coilovers...remember we are talking Nads here, so budget minded would be better....
Great car..glad someone saved one. I have seen one with a Cortina twin cam..very quick and nice growl Yes..be carful with the strut..they can remove your head or other body parts if the spring compressor slips..
