There's a '40 Ford pickup cab listed for sale locally. I realize this has probably been posted before, but are there any quick visual que's that distinguish the two? It's only the cab and doors. Thanks.
From what I was told on mine. The only way to tell is where the front fenders mount to the cab. 40 had a strip that they bolted to and 45-47 didnt. I hope this is right Dane
I believe the 40-41 had the tank under the bed and the 42-47 had the tank under the seat so there will be a hole in passenger side of cab on the 42-47 for the filler neck.
i used a 47 pickup cab to build my 40--i couldnt find any differences between the two except door glass has a steel reinfocement around it--doors as far as i can see are identical--i could be wrong but it worked for me--i built my truck cheap---i put over 15000 miles on it since april & am enjoying the hell outta it (Im Retired)
If that's the case then I guess this one is a '40! May have to go look at it tonight. I've already got a full set of fenders and a hood from my great grandfather's 41. Thanks everyone.
Besides the floor pan differences between '40-'47 (under seat well, seat riser, m/cyl access hole), there are differences in the cabs between '40-'41. The '40 has a slightly raised panel in the center of the dash panel where the 'Ford' script goes. A '41 is flat in that spot and used a Ford script plate in that spot. Also in the '40-'41 there is a difference of firewall stamping where the voltage reg goes-different placement of the beads. Now we are talking 1/2 ton cabs. The bigger truck cabs are different as well.
"The bigger truck cabs are different as well." What are those differences? Does it prevent them from being used on a 1/2 ton build?
