Mike will probably chime in when he gets a chance but I would guess that the photo was taken in his shop at some stage. I am basing this assumption on the stuff in the background. For those who have not visited Mike's place in Hartford City, you have not lived. Probably the most awesome collection of cars and parts on the planet for those into old race cars.

Addendum: Bucky Austin does have Mike covered on the FED front--heaven on earth

The picture was shot at Warner Robins in probably 1974. The 55 is the Simpson brothers out of Jacksonville Fla. Wagon is not Gene. His didnt have handles on the back doors. Might be Hayward (sp) Register.

  7. I shot a bunch of photos between 1959 and 1964 at Island, York, Atco and Flemington. The best one I ever took is the 1964 record setting run "Big" made at Island for the first official 200+ NHRA record. The guy you see on the spectator side, over the front wheel, is Robert Bissel taking the photo that would be in ND and Hot Rod of the history making pass. I brought it with me to Bonneville for Don to autograph when came he out to get famous by getting into the 200 MPH Club on the Salt in the Swamp Rat 33 Streamliner we built for him.
