Projects Pics of my new 33 Ford coupe

  1. Thanks Doc,
Between my Dad, brother and I we have a lot of shit...but it's taken years and a lot of $$$ to get there. Plus the Northwest still has lots of early Fords, wich makes it a little too "easy" to have too many irons on the fire. I can never turn down a deal on an early Ford :)

Hey Chris that's one sweet ride man....def. a '33(the '33 doesn't have "dips" ontop of the firewall as the '34 has for the bonnet to rest on)....If I was to build that up..I'll do a keep it a stockcar as it was back in the day...maybe find out more from where it came..what races it did etc...but that's just my idea...What's yours???cheers Jannie :)

  3. I really don't care for the stock car look. I really wanna go for the chopped highboy look. Picture Vern Hammon's orange 3W, only without so much gone outta the roof. I have a dropped axle, stock rear, 39 box, warmed 1934 21 stud, 16's, ect. I really don't know what color I want it, thats the only thing that is up in the air. I want the car nice, a lot of people give me shit for not having a "painted" car :D

  4. Looks great and what patina! Maby just fix it a little, make weather proof (?), add glass and a seat and run it like it is............................

  5. Well, tonight the sawzall got a workout. I cut the roll bar out so I could get to the dents in the roof, and now I can get my dash in it. Anyone need a U-fab roll bar kit for a 33/34 coupe???

.... a diamond in the rough. Cool ride!

  7. Heres the engine going in it. All rebuilt, ready to go. The intake is a early Thickston with removable risers. I'm also gonna put a Winfield cam in it. I am looking for a set of finned heads for it...not too easy to find.

  8. double cool......early PM7 with 97's on a 21 stud.....sweet as sugar, especially with the stock heads...refreshing to see.

Great to see progress, keep swinging,

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

  9. Drewfus, do you know much on these intakes...cuz I don't :D About what vintage are they???

  16. Chris,

Full Show is the way to go!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to run up there tonight. I decided it was time to put Russ' Volks-Rod back in Hibernation before the weather around here started to take a turn for the worse. The coupe's looking good so far, can't wait to see it on the road.

Nice progress. Looks like it's going to be a cool build. You should use the columbia in it, I have one in my 32 and it works great. 70 on the highway and the flathead is barely turning.

  18. No problem Billy,
Come on up whenever you get time and check it out. Did you get the windshield back on the Volksrod??

  19. I really thought about it, but just don't really want to put it in the coupe. I orriginaly bought the 2 speed for my 39 coupe, beings it's a 37-40 Columbia.

How did you put yours in your 32? Did you change the rear crossmember and run a strait spring, or alter the spring hangers and run a curved spring??

  20. Whats funny Is I was thinking the same thing. I want it a dark color, and am really leaning twards a maroon. Blue would be be good too, but My best friends sedan is Washington blue, so I may stray from that color.

  21. Well, I didn't get much done tonight, bu do have some questions. I noticed large rivets holding the upper windshield inner structure to the outer skin, the wood is different looking than my 34, as well as the way it is held in, and the quarter pannel is screwed to the door jam, instead os seamless like my old 34 was. Also, the header on a 34 is metal and has large holes drilled into it, and this car is mostly wood. So either it's a very early car...or 33's are just plain different than 34's. Does anyone have any insight on it?

Also noticed a very old Mobile oil sticker on the inner door jam :)

Chris - the things you have noticed on the inside of your car are all features of a 33. Take a look inside a 34 five window (if only by picture on a body for sale on the net) and you will see that a 34 is quite different. Don't know about the screwed on B pillars in terms of whether the 34 is the same, but yours is definitely a 33.

Chris, Congrats on finding a 33/4 coupe!. I remember seeing that one on ebay and thinking it was going for a reasonable price. Glad it's found a good home! It looks better in your pics than it did in the ebay listing. Doors sure make a difference too.
After seeing your roof, I feel bad about having already spliced in the coupe roof section I bought from you. On that note, LMK if you come up with any extra roof pieces from this project.

  24. So, is mine not suppost to have the hole-drilled header above the inside of the windshield..or is this car's just missing?
    Thanks :D

  25. Thats OK, I have another complete top lined up, and if all else fails I think I can fix this one except one small area. The car is a lot better looking in person than on the add. I was so nervous when I got it that it would be a pile, but was surprised to see no real "surprises: Hows your coupe coming??

  26. Congrats Chris, looks like you are wasting no time "gettin on it". Lookin forward to the updates and transformation. Have fun.
    D.

  27. Thanks Deron,
Yeah, I am pretty excited to get this thing rollin :D

33's have a different header panel than 34's. 33's were smaller and had a thick wood tack strip for the headliner, 34's had the larger metal with holes panel that connected to the top insert recess and had some type of woven fiber tack strip attached to it for the headliner.

The two 34 5 windows that I parted out had the b-pillars screwed to the quarter panels like yours. Your wood configuration looks the same as the ones I had. There should be wood around the quarter windows. Other than the over door wood, all of the wood was primarily for attaching upholstery. None of the cars I've seen had rivets attaching the header panel in place as I recall.

  29. I'm obviously behind with following this along...I am really excited to see this one come around...

I can't count how many ways this picture is cool:

Neither the spring was ground to fit in the curved cross member. Then I did not like ther rear end location (wheels were to far forward in the wheel well) so I cut up the cross member and moved the whole rear assembly back 3/4".

Next time I would just alter the rear cross member to fit the 40 spring and move it back the 3/4" at the same time.

I have this cool vacuum transfer valve I shift it with also, works great. I can give you the part number if you want.

I have no regrets having the columbia, I have been driving everywhere with it.

The shifter is in this picture
