This is just a VERY,VERY quick and ruff one.I'm not saying this is the way to go or most perfect or whatever.Still can be much more improved. It's just to get the creative juices flowing which you absolutely don't have a problem with Jim,that's for fuckin' sure.Great to see you loosing your mind...

Cool, I like the longer length. In general, I always prefer a long looking top which most chopped tops look like. The 1st exception to my preference would be ranchero or el camino style, which is real short.

The 2nd exception to my preference would be a top on the Golden Sahara. That top is so wild and different I can't remember if it was short or long looking.

as i said before,,,,,,YOU GUYS RULE,,,,,,,,,,thanks for all the GREAT photoshop work,,,

im liking the 59 chevy wheelwell openings a lot,,i think it works well with the fender cove shape and the dip in the door (if i end up keeping that)...i never thought of removing the skirt and seeing how that would look until twochops suggested it,,,,man,,does it look good

the skirts were pretty cool...but i think the 59 chevy wheelwells win out..

    frenz,,,,,,,,,,thanks for the photoshop buddy..

the golden sahara was actually a big influence on the car,,,,,,,along with some other barris cars, the 51 buick le sabre show car, and all of bob metz's work (my kustom idol)...

  10. Awesome PS jobs by everybody!

To me, the door/fender dip makes the difference between dream car and custom... Seems like that rear wheel arch works better with the dip as well. Anybody else think the new rear arch makes the front look a tad heavy? Can't really put my finger on it... I dunno, it just looks killer either way!

That stainless top looks awesome in the rendering, btw. Just my .02 (worth nothing when adjusted for inflation)...

some pics from today's "tweaking"..........trimmed up the lincoln quarters to fit better and moved them forward about two inches,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,with the new wheelwell opening shape, i felt like some sort of trim was needed to break up the width of the quarter,,,i mocked it up in tape to mimic the shape of 55 chevy side trim,,,i think this trim would look great,,,,,,also,,the door/quarter dip stays.........once i figure out the taillight and rear setup, it'll be time to start putting in some serious welding hours,,,,,,,,,,getting closer and closer though,,,,,,,

man... Will you be my hero? How the hell do you get so much time in the shop? I'm still working... and I'm self-employed!

That chevy rear trim reminds me of a skirt treatment I saw. It was on a flat orange shoebox that was in that huge customs picture tread that I think Frenz started. Hard to explain, I'll post a pic when I get home.

twochops - flip the shading on the cove, it's supposed to be concave(or at least that was the plan at one point)

WOW!! That is one classy looking custom. Like the top treatment and cove. Hate commenting but that rear trim looks busy, your eye just goes right to it. I just think you have enough going on and it isn't needed. Looks like it is hanging out there. Kind of like throwing portholes on it.

    So, no more bubble skirts?

I have a '56 Chevy in my yard that's going to donate it's roof to my '57, I could slice the rear wheelwell openings out if you needed them (I'd have to see how good they are, I remember them being useable) The front fender openings died to fix my '59 Edsel rear quarters (worked surprisingly well).

I really want to see what this is going to look like. The Photoshop work really helps the visualization.

are you talking about the vertical trim with the teeth, or the horizontal 55 chevy trim? (or both)

alright, so it was a peach colored car, not orange. This was the first thing that came to mind when I saw rear trim mock up.

thats one of the cars built by the drag 'n shop in ca. if im not mistaken,,,,they do some nice work,,

  24. I think if you stick with your instincts you may very well end up with an iconic custom here...the fact that it started as a shoebox Ford is almost comedy material...

You have completely restyled this car, and come up with something really special. I look forward to only a few thread subscriptions each day, and look forward to this Kustom coming to fruition...

I think a subtle Winfield fade job could make this an absolute show-stopper...

    Really impressive vision...

I see you are already making a top mockup in wire. But just for fun, since I don't think anyone has suggested this top idea yet. Is this not a signature style, one that was popular on your side of the country? attached one of my sketches.

Like a Breezeway style roof. That would be cool.

Here's some pics of the '56 wheel openings. Pretty similar to the '59 openings, these may be slightly shorter in overall length. Let me know if this is something you can use.

I didn't know they were called Breezeway roofs, you learn something everyday on the HAMB. Anyone know if they were an East Coast or Midwest style?

Aren't the so-called breezeway roofs actually originated by Gaylord, from California?

  29. Early '60s Mercurys had a Breezeway roll down rear window. Is this the original use of the term?

This car is like a good book... can't wait to see what's going to happen in the next chapter.
