Yupper ... discount gas.. Anyone else in other states see this? Now instead of a discount for pay at the pump a lot of stations are offering a discount on gas for CASH..... Maybe they are afraid of credit cards? Banks folding? ... Ive seen it on diesel but hardly ever on regular gas especially here .. Interesting ...

Credit cards charge a fee to the seller...if you don't get a discount for cash, which you usually aren't, you are helping pay that fee!

I don't know where you're at in Michigan but it's been that way in the Detroit area for awhile now. Gotta watch it when getting gas, they advertise cash price but the pumps have credit cards prices on 'em, usually about 10c more per gallon. Credit card companies charge a fee for each transaction, the gas stations are saving a few pennies when they take cash instead of CCs & p*** some of it to their customers who pay cash.

There was actually a sighting of $2.99 gas here. Kinda weird to be excited about that, but after scratching $4.00...ANYTHING is an improvement. I haven't noticed anybody giving cash discounts around San Antonio.

  7. All the truck stops and depots along major interstates have always done that around here. Some give you a little extra fuel, and others give you the difference in cash back. Maybe they hope you'll buy a soda or some chips with it.

Some of the independent stations do it too, I have not seen a major chain do it though.

Since I only use cash, I appreciate it. Every little bit helps.

You have to watch the joints with car washes..They will post the price on the big sign for you to see, but that price is with a purchase of a car wash.

They have got me a few times.

i noticed this too years ago. gas stations used to charge less for cash customers then they stopped doing it about 1990. fathack said a station he worked at back then had to quit because it was ileagale. I guess the laws have changed again because most stations now charge more for credit customers? just like they use to.

I filled the wifes car tonite at a station that wasnt pre pay... It is now? Ill pre pay and use cash for the cheap gas cause like i said im a cash guy... Its just unusall to see all the stations here doing the cash discount now..

Yup, the CC companies charge ~3%. And American Express is higher. So at the $4 price it's about 12cents that goes to the CC company. The station markup here is normally 6cents over the tanker price. The wholesaler usually pays the CC fee.

But it's something when the finance co gets more than the station. And the State and Feds get ~50cents a gallon for their involvement.

And the load comes COD, or sometimes prepaid the day of delivery. Ya better have about 34,000 in the account when the truck comes.

Your'e gonna see a lot of marginal stations folding this year as the volume drops.

Out here in southern california its not a discount at all, just a few months ago I noticed they charge you an extra 10 cents PER GALLON if you use your card as credit.. how stupid is that.. so now I have to get my *** off my car, go inside and do it as debit.. then its the same price as cash.. but the cash price isn't a discount by any means.. its the same as all the other gas stations who charge that flat rate whether you pay with cash, card, ugly women or prescription drugs. While we're talking about this.. I went to KFC to try out a chicken tender combo, and when I tried to pay with my card, (I hardly carry cash unless i'm going out or something and my bank doesn't charge me anything to use my card) and they said they had a minimum of $10 dollars to use your card... wtf ?? you can't even get some freakin chicken nowadays without some bullsh*t like this... as if these companys arn't making millions more than I make a year.. just another way for them to stick it to the consumer, YOU.. ME .. US... god forbid they can't afford to take that trip around the world for the 20th time..

I'm gonna start growing my own fast food.

  13. Visa especially, and also Mastercard and AMEX have weaseled their way into almost every retail transaction, and its utter ****. The commercials that try to sell that its faster to pay with a card then cash should be taken off the air as false advertising.

Using a card at a local/family owned business is just rude, the deck is already stacked against them. If im going out of my way to support my neighbors, i might as well make sure they get all the money im giving them.

    Cash is King!!!

Just saw a story on the news last week about this. They say the honest gas stations will have both prices posted, a credit and a cash price.

I use cash for 99% of my gas purchases. Supposedly the station operators don't make as much per gallon as they used to, who knows. I'm not one to put everything I buy on a credit card. I do use my debit card but keep an eye on what my balances are.

If everyone tended to use cash, maybe we wouldn't be in such deep **** right now.
