Why one 6, why not 2? This one was at the Bradenton Nostalgic Drags.

    1953 Chevy 210
The original 216 Straight 6, she's all stock

Got a 170 straight 6 in the Comet. That thang'll top out at about 30 mph goin' over Bays Mtn. I reckon it's my not so hot rod Comet. Maybe I'll cut it up and make a winter project out of puttin' in a 300 straight 6.

    Itsa425,

    Interesting turbo setup.
How's the ground clearance with the pipe running under the pan?
That car must have to sit a little tall, eh?
Nice looking rig, though. Very clean. Nice work. Cudos.

    Hawkeye,

Hmmm, so you guys remove all the paint (leaving a little "patina" for character), shoot the bare car with a clear coat and reinstall all the chrome pieces.....INGENIOUS!!!
Really, I kinda like that look. Kinda reminds me of a WWII fighter plane.
My Dad's '60 Apache 10 had 3-on-the-tree w/OD. I think he told me it was a "Ho-No-Drive" unit. Cable operated.
Worked pretty nice. His 261 got about the same milage as your '53 does, but that's a fully loaded P/U doing 65 on the freeway (with short tires) and going over a 4000 ft. pass...twice!
I bet you guys would see low-mid 20's with the same tranny.

    BettyRumble,

Before you buy that 300, check your neighborhood for a 250 (NOT 240).
Its the stroked and bored version of the your 170 (3.68x3.91 for 250, vs. 3.5x2.94 of your 170).
Should be a straight drop-in and you'll notice quite a bit more power.
I think Ford started building those in '69 and kept them around all through the 70's. I've seen more than my share of Maverick's and Granada's with those in them.
Good luck. Nice car to be workin' on.
(...and here's a short vid to show you what a Comet looks like a 250 in it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJiXKC3eA98 )

Thanks! I'm gonna look into that 250. Our friend had the 300, but it would be too much work for me to handle. Thanks for the video too

Search for blueskies here on the board....In his website, I believe is 50plymouth.com he lists all his parts for his engine, the most beautiful four door plymouth I have seen. you will be able to find the info there I believe they are made to order and they run around 650+ hope this helps.

    Texas_Rat_Trap,

    NICE CAR!
    Great "before-and-after" pics, too.
I'm sure there's more than a few here who may benefit from those engine pics, so thanks for posting those.

The pipe wasn't to bad. I just had to make room for the drain plug, oil return line, and motor mount on that side. Starts good and pulls hard!

I have a 53 chevy HT with a 400 in it. I came across a guy who was selling a running inline 6 for $100 bones. It's sitting in my garage as I contemplate the swap. I dig the way the six's sound with pipes out the back.....

Where did you source a dual carb intake for your 223? I've got a 223 from a '63 F-100 that I'll be running in my Model A. All I've been able to find for that motor are 4 barrel intakes.

What type of valve cover are you planning on using?

    Very cool project.

  17. my 308 in my 54 Hudson wasp , 232 head on it just rebuilt the carbs.

    Moonglow,

Dan Marvin of Exeter Auto Supply posted this ad here back 2006:

"JUST IN!!1082 1952-1953 Ford 223 and 215 inline 6 cylinder 2x1 manifold. Comes complete with linkage. $247.99 plus shipping."

I notice it was just updated in June, so that manifold may still be in stock.

Here's the link to the post - http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1417660&postcount=1

    Good luck on your project.

I'm nearly ready to fire up the 235ci that I've been building and putting into my '41 truck. Got the hardlines plumbed in last night and just need to get my fan belt, rad and exhaust sorted out.

    Terry,

Looks like the project is coming along nicely.
Would love to see some pics of it when you've finished.
...even better, some video of the engine running and maybe the truck driving around a little.
Put it on youtube and link it here.

  25. I Have a 235 just waiting for somrthing, and 47 Chevy with a 3.1 V6 in it, but its not running yet. Old saying we used for years, Six in a row don't go, but they get better gas milage! Lets use these straight sixes!

  26. I love my straight 6!! Running a 700R4 behind it and got 29 MPG without running the lock-up! Should be rebuilt this winter with a turbo on it if everything goes good.
