So, I just recently purchased a '26 T which has a nice healthy '64 300 Buick. It runs beautiful but I want to make sure it has the right look. Does anyone have pics of traditional 4bbl setups? I really like the look of "Mushroom" tops on 4bbls but want to know my options, even though the "pinhead" has very little to offer.
Nice Car Holleys, afb's, wcfb's, are all good carbs and pre 1960 and avalible in small CFM that'll fit the small cubes
ditto what shaggy said...JJ that T is the real deal! Beautiful little car! Congrats on getting it home and keeping it in the HAMB family
Thanks ODDROD, get your ass back to NC and you can get up close and personal with it! As for the 4bbl, it has a Holley on there and I like it but I feel the air cleaner is just not quite right. So, I guess what I am looking for is different 4bbl air cleaner setups. I wish this engine had a 2 x 4 intake available so I can put smaller air cleaners on.
Gee you could always make one out of a buick drum...wait somebody did that already...trying to get the house sold so we can get back there...might just rent this one out and do a flip flop and move into our house back there...just really need the bucks out of the one here to have a bit of a "nest egg"...a 2 x 4 would be the icing on the cake for your "T"...hope to meet up with ya soon
Make an intake manifold. You can tack it together with a gas welder then have it TIG welded if you prefer. I'd prefer one for a pair of Rochester 2GC's or better yet a pair of the internally progressive 2 bbl Holleys.
No way...No way...No way!... How did I miss this. I am so jealous right now.... That is my favorite T. and its seems to be a REALLY well built car... I cant wait to see it up close I about lost it when I scrolled down and saw that THIS was the T you bought. That car RULES congrats man....I really want to check that car out.
Thanks Whitey! The wife gave me the "ok" to use our Kitchen money to get it!...but now I have agreed to let her rescue another American Pit Bull Terrier and promised a child in the near future. The things we do for these toys. I couldn't let it leave Charlotte, since it has such a strong tie around here. And and don't be too jealous, you have the baddest Model A Pickup and a '32 being built to the fucking nine. Are you coming to the Good Guys show in Charlotte at the end of the month? I would love to check out your truck first hand. Let me know! 4bbls anyone?
I had a similar post request about a year ago, and got the same amount of response as you have. I ended up going with a repop caddy air cleaner from speedway on the new Holley 4bbl with my flathead. I wouldn't call it a "traditional" setup, but I'm pretty happy with it.
I am curious about this as well; I want simple something to run before I tackle the 6x2 setup I have on the shelf.
Hey Tubbs, Not that it matters what I say but I like the air cleaner that's on there. I'll keep an eye out for some other intake that may make you happy. BloodyKnuckles
Hey look who decided to show face. Grandpa Spaghetti, well the 215 and the 300 are not the same engine and nothing really interchanges between the two besides a 300 Crank to your 215 to punch it out to 266. A 215 intake will not fit a 300 as the intake ports are wider apart thus making the amount of speed parts for a 300 a whopping ZERO. The air cleaner that is on it is just not right. I am trying to find the perfect mushroom cleaner to go on top but have not found the exact one yet. The one that is on it is flat on top making it look kind of cheap. Don't be surprised if a 322 Nailhead with a 2 x 4 intake ends up in this car after my coupe is well on it's way like in Tommy Ivo's Bucket. Oh but thanks for the post, it's been real.....real pointless. Haha just kidding. Your opinion matters. Your like the Great Uncle I never had.
I thought I would add to this thread instead of starting another so that I can ask a question. Is there such a thing as an adapter to make a 4bbl intake into a 2 x 4 intake like they have for 2bbls? It's not the performance I am looking for as much as the look. The car is plenty fast right now but I like the looks of a 2 x 4 intake with small air cleaners.
Pretty sure saw some kind of adapter to go from 4 bl to a 2 carb. Seemed like it was kinda tall. Speedway maybe?
Could not find them on the speedway site but still looking. I figure that they will probably be pretty tall, but I want to exhaust all my options before I settle.
I know you like the four brl set up, but what about using that intake with a Vintage speed adapter, and a pair of Strombergs or 94's...
Well, my roadster used to run a pair of 2bbls and I am not really a fan of them on 60's type cars. I feel like it was the time of excess when it came to Hot Rods and customs and the 2 x 2 intake does not scream excess. I like those for immediate post war roadsters but not for this car. Like I said, I am trying to exhaust my options before I settle, thanks though.
There's not a lot of room for multi carbs on that engine. I've thought about cutting the center out of a stock aluminum 4bbl intake and welding in a multi carb plate, but it's pretty short from the water jacket to the rear of the intake. The 2x2 doesn't seem right to me either. I've looked in old catalogs for other intakes but haven't found much at all for the 300. You're probably going to have to be creative.
Well bud, I'd hate to say it but you will probably never be sattisfied with it, better just give it to me.... I like it the way it is, and 4bbl really doesn't give you too many options... god I love that car...
Thanks, too bad it's disabled at current moment. I fucking hate AUTO ZONE. Two times this week they have given me the wrong intake gaskets and now I may not make Good Guys with it. But once I get it running it will be better then ever.....or at least cleaner.
Here are a couple of set ups I have. 2 barrels look Ok on a 60's style ride if you have enough of them.
