A girl came to visit me the other evening. We went out to my garage to take my daily to a restaurant.

But she stopped short when she saw the '59.

"So THIS is Mickey Rat? Looks unsafe to me".

I told her to jump in. I went around and slid behind the wheel.

"What's the big deal", she sez looking at the poor headliner and the rusty bits. "Smells like gasoline in here".

With a pause for effect and an evil grin I hit the ignition. The engine came to life with a roar and heavy subsonic backbeat. Beautiful music from the side-exit pipes. I let 'er warm up until the cab pounded and shook in rhythm to the .541 lift cam loping at idle. Then I got on it and racked 'em off a couple of times.

Her eyes got big. She stared at me, stunned. Fidgited in her seat. Finally, "Wow". Just, "Wow".

She won't admit it but I think it made her hot. Except all she wants to do now is drive, drive, drive.

    OK with me.

Isn't that funny...girls love acceleration and speed. My wife is pretty conservative and she squeals in delight when I gun the nailhead in my coupe, kinda surprised me the first time. Yeah its a gut reaction thing...hot rods are like driving a wild carnival ride. John

I just finished my Biscayne with a 60 over 454, Merlin heads, Extreme Energy cam and dual quads. Richmond 6 speed with 3:42 posi. I took my wife to breakfast one day. I pulled up to a stop sign with a long straightaway. My wife asks, "How far is it to the signal?". I tell her about 1/4 mile. My wife turns to me and yells, "Hit it!". We take off with the tires screaming, hit 2nd gear and the car starts to fish tail. Slam 3rd gear, then come to my senses. I tell my wife, we shouldn't do this, we live here and someone will recognize the car. My wife saids, "I love cars peeling out".

It reminded me of Candy Clark in American Graffetti.

So, can anyone else add to the story? I'll go first:

"Her eyes got big. She stared at me, stunned. Fidgited in her seat. Finally, "Wow". Just, "Wow".

She won't admit it but I think it made her hot. Except all she wants to do now is drive, drive, drive.

    OK with me."

I then wiped the cheap hair oil back off my ducktail, turned to her and said..."_____"

    Your turn.

    ;)

A 59 what? If it was a 59 wagon or sedan the back seats were made for getting hot women off...If it was a truck, forget it.

As she wiped the grease off her fingers from my ducktail, she said, "Hey, I recognize you. You're the guy who was in the newspaper this morning".

    I said, "Yes thats me!"

I'm not "from" Modesto, I live in Modesto now (about 18yrs).

I think the city that likes to pat itself on the back for being the home of American Graffitti made cruising on McHenry illegal about a year after I moved here but that was MANY years after my cruising years.

There's no comparison to a backseat of a 59 Ford or Chevy or Buick etc and a pickup seat...C'mon, show some cl***.

BTW, I did get to enjoy a couple of the last years of Graffitti night...It was way cool and am sorry they stopped it

I had a pickup in college. Once my smiling mom, who still sees more than God, asked me why there was a bare footprint on the inside of my windshield.

Oh yeah...much more cl***y to bang in the backseat than in the front....

    :D

Geez, I haven't been up there since Graffitti Night was pushed to Merced...we had to go to some park, get a sticker on our headlight, in order to make some p***es, musta been in the mid 80's?, so long ago I don't recall.

I do remember though...it was a hell of a place to catcha race...used to take'em to Sante Fe or out to Finch.

    Awww, old times:)

    I hear that one.
The morning after Jr. Prom, my driver (****** GT, baby) was sitting in the driveway, and it was kinda humid. Mom said she "really didn't" want to know why there were 2 foot prints on the back window, from the inside.
Best part was I slept til noon that day, missed seeing the footprints. But the neighbors didn't. :) I got funny looks for years.

    Good times, good times.
