Bilsteins will work mounted either way. They don't have a metal boot like that one though. But just thought I would throw that out there.

The guy that mounted that shock is still a tool though.

So what I wonder is this: How many more of these butcher jobs has this dipstick done throughout your area and wherever else he has lived? In Texas, we'd say "Get a rope!". Likely he'd move to the back pasture after that.

One other thing, you really can't compare a body-off build or purpose-built new construction to a "do-it-under-the-car" job as far as pretty, clean and symetrical goes, not that it excuses ****-work, quality DIUTC work is possible no doubt.

Best thing that happened is the bag died while it was parked. You could've been on the highway at speed and the **** would have hit the fan! The **** that some poeple p*** off. A lesson for all to look at the work after it's done and before paying to make sure it was done CORRECTLY.

I don't think gas shocks care about the orientation like an oil shock does. Rustout of the housing is the concern, otherwise every performance shock I've bought has been reversed from OEM orientation. By mounting the heavy end of the shock to the body you're effectively t******* unsprung weight.

Not trying to defend this shop at all, I'm sure it's not the reason they did that. Just throwing another data point out.

For this car to have that many problems before you got under it.......You need to step up your diligence level or old cars are going to be fiasco after fiasco.

    Good luck

Wow, that is sickening to see. It really disgusts me that people do work like that and think it is perfectly safe for the road. You are lucky you are still here, and no one else got injured. Hope all goes well for you with this.

Wow. If I'm correct in my ***umptions, I had heard his work was sketchy but that is down right life threatening. A glob of bondo is one thing, potential death of driver/occupants/other civilians is a complete other.

It is very big of you to not name him. I would imagine that would entice him to help not make this a big long drawn out procedure.

all I have to say is that is some KILLBILLET type stuff there. I have seen guys get mounts crooked before, but never seen the bushings trying to explode out of their casings like that before. Clean your surface before you weild or you will end up with bird **** welds. IM sorry about your luck, but that hack job is just F-:eek:ing hilarious.

really a unfortunate situation, not only has this individual put people safety at risk but now you need to waste more of your time in court! one of the first questions in court from me would be "are you a certified welder? as that will set the tone of the court. posting the name of the shop that did this would be a service to more people than you know. good luck!

    from nowhere...

Is it just me, or is this the trend with air ride...
It always seems anymore to be with the air ride...always with the air ride.
Are 90% of the shops doing these set-ups incompetent, or just criminally negligent?

Some day, I would like to see someone post ones that look right!
I guess they figure you can't get under there, you can't see it...

    Sorry man, very beat deal.

You should not only get back the $ you paid this butcher, but also the cost of repairing the parts he's screwed up.

So, get a couple of repair estimates to put the damaged OEM portions back to their original configuration....

Steamboat, you got hosed. I saw bent structural pieces and there is no 'help' for that, there is nothing we can do or tell you to adjust that will take care of your problem. It is going to have to be ripped out and done proper and thats' that. Sorry buddy.

Exactly how long did you drive with it falling apart before you decided to look underneath? Its almost like eating 3/4 of a steak and then calling the manager and saying you want your money back because you're not happy. Granted this job is ****... top to bottom, but first time something went wrong... some weird noise... you should have been under there inspecting everything.

Exactly. Have them show it to you BEFORE you leave. That way if there is a problem he can't come back with the "it wasn't like that when it left..."

Seriously... good luck with this matter. I hope it pans out for you. And afterwards... please let us know who it is. I have some friends in Michigan.

Sad part- it will probably cost the OP 4 times what he paid this ***clown to do the job right. Usually- you get what you pay for.
What is the butcher willing to do? I'd bet he won't pay to have the job done right- this is a hack job. You would be very lucky to just get your money back.

  29. Find the jerk off that did that, take his harbor freight welder away from him and then beat him about the head and groin! I hope you didn't pay alot to have that done and I hope that you guys can get her back on the road in a SAFE fasion asap! Good luck.
