These guys ran both a blown Rat powered MG roadster and the Corvair depicted above. They were crowned NHRA world champs in 1967 with the MG and then in 68 with the flopper in the super eliminator class. In 68, NHRA placed the funnies in super eliminator, a sort of comp eliminator for supercharged and/or fuel burning "sportsman" cars At the time, irregardless of how you faired through out the season, you could be world champ by winning the very last round of the world finals in your respective class.

While we're on the Corvair kick, here's a few more. Some may have been posted previously.

I took these shots at an AHRA race held at Manhattan, KS in May of 1969. The Guzman & Decker cars was there as well, but I can't find the photo.

Roger Guzmans cars were all beautifully prepaired as well as running like a scalded cat.

When I was at IRP, we had a guy running a Super Pro/Gas Gremlin. I wanted to try to sell Foot Locker a sponsorship and paint laces on the hood.

I saw this car painted yellow, I believe, and driven by Peggy Pierce at Tulsa in 1972.

We (father-son project) just finished restoring/rebuilding the '67 Camaro of Dekker (& Mueller). We had minor changes done to the chassis in order to get an 8.50 NHRA cert. In lieu of the blower, we're running injected alcohol. It orginally had Guzman power. I believe they teamed up (Dekker and Guzman) soon after on the Assassination line of cars with John Dekker driving.

Few know that Flash-Gordon-Mineo, got his start serving as a driver for Tom Sturm and his Chevy Lover Funny. The one depicted here was piloted by Bob-Jet Car-Smith. Smith was involved in a hairy fire and survived. Simpson used it in their ads reminding all on the need to be well prepapred by using their products. Though not detectable from the photo, the car had a textured surface to the roof simulating vinyl

  16. Here is a shot of Walls (sans roof),an L&M photo, and a Mike Ditty shot of the car when Randy Walls drove it.Car was totaled in a crash with Frankie Pisano. Dennis Doubleday

Hmmm, it appears that this 57 is blown. Note blower style scoop and drivers donning of fire suit and mask.

Very nice artist rendition of the late Sheldon Kornblatt's 392 Jag. He was fatally injured in this car. He was the orginator of the Service Center speed shops here in So-Cal

Speedy Day from 1969. I used to visit his speed shop and remember a guy named Nicholson that had Speedy tune his 1969 Nova with a 375/396. What a street car!
