  1. Thanks for showing these. That is what the wheels are on the 32 5 window earlier in the thread. I googled Gene Snow, wow, that's bad sh*t.What a disappontment to a long time fan and the entire sport of Drag Racing.

I'd guess that they'll sell for more than a lot of people here on the HAMB make in a month. The magnesium wheel market has gone bat shit, and just when you think it might plateau, the prices keep climbing.

It's sad, really... if you really needed a set of magnesium Halibrands or Torq Thrusts for a project, you are going to have a hard time getting them without having to fight off all the collectors and vultures looking to make a buck.

Back on topic...the only thing that I can really see those wheels working on are an FED....they're a little too wide for most Hot Rod applications.

Yeah they are really kind of oddball. Most of the nostalgia FED's are running 16" wheels also.

I thought about bidding on them but I dont think they will work for any of my vehicles either.

Some collector will pay big just because of the rarity.

Can anyone shed some light on these? They are 16" x 7" small 6 pin drive knock offs. Pressure plate built into the wheel. I havent seen any like them, I would like to know the era and what they where typically used on.
They are magnesium. Thanks Ahead for anyones knowledge and time.

  6. I think they are Chaparral - I've seen these in a five spoke/five pin drive otherwise they looked identical.

I was told these are rare but not to run them because they were chopped down from larger wheels in the 50,s

Those started their life as 19 inch Model A wheels. During the war with rubber rations, it was VERY hard to find 19 inch Model A tires, so it was kind of common for crafty people to cut the 19 inch rim off their tires and mount 16 inch rims on so they could find tires easier. I've seen quite a few of those, and they are usually home / farmer built jobs.

I had two types of rare wheels over the years. First is a set of these Hurst wheels I had on my 67 Shelby convertible clone. The other set is a matched set of 4 AR Lemans magnesium wheels I scored at a Studebaker parts place in Ohio for $600.

  14. Wheel on the left is a 15 X 10 Weld P9 for Chev pattern. When I called Weld with a question about them the person I talked to had never heard of that one. :D

On the right is a Weld also. Speedway16 X 6 for 6-pin sprint with knockoff. Going on the front of my street-legal '60's sprint car.

While not exactly a Halibrand, these are fairly rare.... dealer-optional wheel for VW beetles by Superior in '69 and '70... at 15x5 these are the wider of the two offered. The others were 1/2 narrower and shallower in the face.

    This is a great thread...

Would a Sears 14 x 7 rader copy be worth anything? I've had it for years.

My Dad put these ET-V's on my Bel-Air in about 1980, still on the car today, although I need to get off my lazy butt, and polish them. I think they are pretty cool!

Sorry no pics, but they were a copy of Halibrands. I had a set of "Fish" Halibrand reproductions 15 4's and 15 8's. Wheels were numbered and all were under SN100. They were on the car when it sold.
I'd love to find another set.

Here is my 1928 roadster with a rare set of Stewart-Warner wheel disc. These are from the 1930s and are covering the 16" Kelsey Hayes bent spoke wheels. They attach with four springs. The back of they were painted 'back in the day with the rest of the car. The back of the discs still have the original, rubber stamped, Stewart Warner logo.- GZ

These Two-Piece 16 inch by real-wide are possibly American Racing wheels.

17x7 and 18x9.5 "new" Halibrand kidney beans in a Dodge Dakota bolt pattern. I doubt there were bunches of these made. They are going on a 41 dodge pickup (w/ Dakota frame)

I happen to have 2 of these, but they are not for sale. :) I have another set of Magnesium wheels on my 1973 Cuda, but no pics at the moment. Those will be going in the rafters soon and something will replace those eventually...
