Hot Rods Saved this one from the crusher!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by junkmanjr, Oct 14, 2008.

  1. It looks pretty bleak. Of course it was a hell of lot worse before we started working on it. One of the quarters was wadded up like a trash bag. It didn't have any front suspension in it. No sheetmetal. No trim. It was a bag of bones we pulled out of a junkyard near Bristol TN (I think was a guys own personal junkyard). Claims that it used to be a racecar, but if it wasn't then it will be before too long. We put a straight axle and a metal tilt frontend on it. Worked like hell on it. But give another month or two and you won't hardly recognize it. I'll keep you updated.

Many of the all time local greats from the days of dirt tracking here in Maine were crushed just in the last few years. Luckily a retired buddy of mine gets wind of this stuff and saves most that he can. You should see the stack of old racers out behind his barn. They're free for the taking as long as your intents and purposes are to restore it to original race condition, and, get this, actually race it again here on the revitalized dirt tracks of Maine. What a concept, huh?

Good for you for saving that old bird. She's gorgeous already.

thanks for saving that one. I love it

  20. Thanks for all the comments. I can't remember the guys name, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Tex. I've got some bad news. I probably won't get any pics when the floors and **** gets fixed. See between me and my dad we have 8 cars and sometimes out source some of the metal work when its major. We work on what we can at my dad's, but we have to be careful because the "***** next door" turned my dad into the EPA and said we were "running a body shop." We don't do any paint work, but hammering, welding, and torch work ain't body shop ****.......in my book. I will get some more pics though when it comes back before we put it running or anything.

How much does something like that go for? I might know of a 57.

  26. Getting kinda deep in it now moneywise. But cheaper the better. But always sometimes its cheaper in the long run to buy them with less work required.

I saw one for about $2000 minus engine,****** and front seat. It was a 2 door post I believe, maybe a hardtop.

  28. If she ain't to rusty jump on it. Not that rust ever turned anyone off, just look at my ****. But if want it go get it. God knows I would if I had the time, money, and room.

  29. Here are some more pics.
