Love that body style , and of course I dig the long roofs. Your fab work looks nice and clean, very impressive! You will have a blast with that knockout. Hope you go back white, ultra sleeper, and so easy to care for. Thanx for sharing the progress pix. ~Sololobo~
Hi ybu22z- Motor is a 13b-rew twin turbo out of the FD RX-7. We did a street port and single turbo..Actually planned to use the twins but they ( and all the piping with them ) got in the way. I was planning on using a Microtech ECU. The wagon weighs in around 2600 lbs with the stock drivetrain..The rotary and the mazda trans weighs alot less. I am a scale tech so when shes all done we will be weighing her. I plan to keep the steel wheels and little caps..not sure on colors yet..definetly want to keep her looking homely and a two-tone finish.. I do not want the "look at me I am a bad ass" look. Yes, I do want to surprise some people who drive the " look at me I am a badass " cars. Color suggestions?? Think 50's 2-tone....
Oh yeah...The Rambler has a Synapse BOV so she should get some "what the hell" looks when I shift......Man I cant wait!
I just love it, nothing like streching the concept of trad. hot rodding. It's all about progress, some times you just gota do what you gota do. Have fun with it and dare to be different. .......Jack
Thanks guys for all the positive feedback on the Rambler.... It's nice to see so many like the oddballs at this forum even if they have a non traditional engine. Thanks again guys
Even though i'm not a drifting fan, i'd love to see that thing kick the crap out of a 240SX or Subaru on a track lol... that would just be crazy.
Thanks for the info Ramzoom. I've played with the old school naturally aspirated rotaries for a while so I have the love. I was recently thinking through putting a 13b into a spare ratty 65/66 Ford Falcon ute we have lying around, though might just leave the 170 in place. The Renesis is also a good swap option for a light car (1000kg / 2,200lb range) - I've seen one make similar power to a bridge ported 13b that was using a street exhaust. It is just rather fiddly converting fly by wire throttle to cable, the metering pumps away from the ecu, etc. Colour? grey roof, pale yellow body?
That little Rambler is cool and the engine is killer. My brother-in-law is building an airplane with a Mazda rotary engine.
I have been kicking around colors even though I am awhile away.....(shut up gasser55) First thought was actually coral/shadow grey Lt. cream yellow and ??? is good.. I guess I am leaning towards "Easter" colors because they seem to look best on the Ramblers and keep the cars grandma'ish character...Again, I am staying away from ricky racer..bad ass look. Besides I think it would be cool to surprise some people when all they see is the rear of a little pink Rambler?? Hopefully... Any thoughts???
Very cool car , I have looked for one of those for years , finally found realy nice car really cheap not sure of year 59 or 60 not real familiar , so now it has been sitting in one of my buildings for a few years sure does look good back in the corner , great job on your project
Here's one i worked on, it took the Ridler in detroit, you've probably seen it by now, not really HAMB friendly but a 60 rambler nonetheless www.diversstreetrods.com
The wagon got stalled for awhile.. we are planning to get some more work done after the holidays... We have been putting time into my 59 Rambler coupe getting ready to change some things..Gasser55 is helping with that one too so I am sure he will be doing build post on the 59 soon..Not quite as off beat and involved as the rotary wagon but still should be a cool little setup when done. Thanks again for all the nice comments on the wagon
