Gary Coe's 57 Ford Altered "Gun Fighter"

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Panneton Bros. Racing, Oct 16, 2008.

  1. One of the guys here at work is building a '57 Ford G***er that'll be really
nice when its done (he keeps promising to give me some pics to post)
His all time favorite car is the "Gun Fighter". He's always wandering what ever happened to it.., so there is the question. Anyone know? I also
included pics of a couple of bad boys from Canada. Gunfighter.jpg

  2. It used to race a few hundred feet from my place!
I have video footage of it ripping up the track.
One of those pics is taken at the old Mission track in Vancouver.
I heard the car is still around, didn't make it to the Van Isle Re-union in '02:confused: I think Olbeet knows some info on its where-abouts...

Any info on the other cars?

I'd love to build a clone of the Gunfighter!

Seeing the pic of the Gunfighter pulling a wheelie, tires crossed up, I was F!@#@!ED instantly!!!! I had to feel what it would be like, So it made me do this... 394 Olds, Twin 671's, 2x 6x2 Top plates, Tripple chain drive, Mmmmmmm!
I haven't had one of my own since I sold my 50 back 01 damm thats a long time. So I'm pretty stoked to get this thing done...
Thanks for posting, i haven't seen some of the other pics.

scan0022-2.jpg Here are some pics from "Mr. Slackers" project here at work. His HAMB
name is "Straxle" so give him some **** and maybe he'll finish it. Actually
its getting a repaint to medium/heavy metalic blue & silver. It will run a
    healthy 434" FE & Clutchless Liberty toploader & Dana 60 w/4.30 gears.

  7. one more of Straxles car, the picks of the red car are because its *****en.
Anyone know what happened to it. One pic of Tuckers Truck. He still owns
it. Injected FE. He brings it out to cruises once in a great while.
The candy blue car is being built by a guy on the "57 Ford" website.

  11. Gary is a good friend of mine and he's alive and doing well. Your right in that the car was Bad *** and when you find out it ran a 302 built by Ron Larson it's even more amazing.
The last accounting of the car was after going through a few new owners it came down to the Body being Rolled off the frame, Got some Paddle Tires and ran around on the Oregon coast sand Dunes. Now how Sad is that?
Gary is still very involved in Hot Rods and I believe he still has his 58 Ford Ranchero. He also has 2 1957 Ford Trucks. One is a daily driver the other was built by S.A.R. and has been in several current Mags.

  12. I just shared this info with my buddy and he's in the
corner of our office crying and puking at the same time. What a sorry ***
ending to a *****en car.., so its decided someone has to recreate it!

  13. I agree. You find a good body shell and bring it here. I bet I can get Gary to give up the specifics for a Clone. He has a lot of Good Memories of racing that Car.

  14. Hey "Pist-N-broke" do you know where "Captain Dune Buggy" lives, he
needs a royal *** kicking.., and I gotta remind myself to call the pizza
guy cause were gonna be hungry when we get done with him. But seriously, it would still be cool to find the original body and start from
    there.

  15. Remember back in the late 70's we were still moving Forward. That Old Dated stuff had no value. As best I remember in Gary's own words. The Body was cut up and hauled off or I would have it Now. The Ch***is just dissapeard as so much Old Iron does.

  16. A moment of silence please.., Ok back to work. My buddy Rick used to work at
NHRA a couple years ago. One of the "old timers" thought that Gary may have also
built and altered wheel base wagon. Any truth to that. See if you can get Gary to go to the HAMB Drags at Bakersfield next year and I think it'll help inspire him.
Fortunatly 57 sedans are still rather inexpensive at least in southern california. Thanks for the info, we'll keep ya posted on Ricks hardtop.

Had a friend in high school (67-69) that was building a copy of "The Gunfighter", 57' Ford. He never finished it however, I wonder what became of that car, it would have been good for a copy. Somewhere, I have a pic of a "shortie" 57' Ford Station Wagon drag car taken at Bremerton Raceway at one of the All Ford Drags, yellow and white 2 door wagon shortened up, really different. Hey,
I'm the guy with the blue and white g***er hardtop at the start of this thread. 15-20 years ago when many had somewhat forgotten our beloved
g***ers, my neighbor gave me some old 8mm slides of the '68 Winternationals. I had them converted to 8x10's, was slayed by the "Gun Fighter" and vowed to make an era (mostly correct) g***er out of my '57. Even though todays news of the demise of my all time favorite car is a gutt punch, I'm even more inspired to get mine done this year. If some of you guys who know Gary have a way I could talk to him, I'd love to shoot the breeze about his racing days etc.
